India Xi vs Pakistan Xi (from 1970s)

I’m thinking like a 40-50 innings ish peak.
Australia ofc has O’Reilly and Warne but even then I don’t think it’s gonna match Pakistan. Waqar, Imran, Wasim and then you have Akhtar. Imagine facing all 4 at their peak.

Well howstat only has most wickets in x matches for bowlers so I’m going off 25. (Note these are just raw overall numbers, probably not their exact peaks. The format is most wickets in 25 matches rather than lowest average so they could have better runs of that length with less wickets maybe?)

Using the post 70s criteria, Pakistan would give each of the other teams a real run for their money. Because Australia for example all of a sudden loses their ace and so too does the WI: Bradman and Sobers respectively. Australia still has enough fire power to likely be the best post 1970 but they're much much closer to the rest of the pack (imho).

This is very very close.

WI's advantage is in the presence of Lara and Richards alongwith a superior pace attack whilst AUS has the upper hand in positions 5-6-7, with the presence of ATGs there and their trump card in Warne who is arguably the greatest spinner of all time. Would be a fascinating match to watch

Strangely enough i disagree. The batting is about even with the slight edge to Australia because of Gilchrist, let's not kid ourselves. Bowling: edge WI with pace obviously but Australia has Warne. I don't see Warne ripping through the WI the same way he did vs Eng or RSA. And especially so if WI sub in Kallicharan or Lloyd.

O’Reilly as well. Especially considering Warne may well get hammered by Indies and Tiger having more success against the very best batsman.

WI would benefit a lot by having Headley too alongside ofc Sir Gary. Think Headley could well open fitting one of 3W’s in middle opener.

Australia with McGrath, Lillee and Cummins have more than enough firepower and Warne is a much more complete attack since he will make 4th and 5th days really difficult for WI, tho admittedly they have great players of spin. It's not like they have relative weak links like Brett Lee to leak runs.
