If you trained for five years…

I don’t think so. It was never part of PE for us. I don’t think I’d even heard of it until I was in my 20s. There’s probably a bit more of it around now with EU immigration, but not much.

There’s a different Irish sport called handball, it’s a bit like squash where you use your hand instead of a racket. Still very obscure, but much more popular than Olympic handball.
One of my friend's relatives competed in (Irish) hand at a reasonably high level. She got very confused at the weekend when we put the Olympic handball on.

Would only have a chance to be competitive if they brought in cigarette or weed smoking races. Wouldn't need the 5 years training either.

i heard some people tried to get bridge into the olympics

Yeah there was a big push for it some 20+ years ago. Everything was heading in the right direction but then in 2014 there was a massive cheating
scandal that took all the headlines and basically slowed if not stopped the process altogether.
Big shame but tbh I'm much happier that the game has been totally cleaned up.

I played rugby with a guy who got in a national kabadi side after not very long.

Me, none at all. I do wonder how good I could have been at swimming if I'd kept it up though. Did my gold when I was a kid and me and another kid who was a strong county swimming were way ahead of everyone, and I was like a rake without a noticeable muscle on my body.
I ended up 6 4, a strong build and big shoulders.
I never swam a stroke of crawl between the ages of I guess 15 and 45, by when my shoulder was completely knackered from a nerve injury in my neck from rugby. I suddenly decided one day at the beach to see if I could remember how to do crawl, and I could not believe how fast I went. I honestly got out of the water and people were like staring in astonishment.   Gave me a calf strain though which took months to recover from.
Anyway, obviously nowhere near Olympic standard, but I'm sure I could have been a good club swimmer.

Lets be real, don’t we all stare in astonishment at pasty Brits at the beach?

You laugh, but I was quite proud of that physique whilst it lasted. (although tbh that photo was in fact about a year after the swimming epithany, and was in Phuket, whereas the swimming epithany was on Skafi beach in Tilos in the Dodacense).

That was what I was talking about with the snacks incidentally. It was after I'd been to Kenya and Tanzania for a couple of months.
6 months prior to that I'd weighed close to 18 and a half stone.
