At least he can perform his primary job properly rather than throwing in someone (i.e. jones) who keeps and Bats crap. Until England can get a true Wicketkeeper Batsman they need to select the best Keeper for the job

Also I had to go with my namesake, makes it a lot easier for me to get my name said when playing cricket n07 etc. with a created player

Nixon is not a great wicketkeeper, he's another hybrid chice who is suited to the ODI's he plays I think he is suitable for ODI's but his technique is too poor for Test Match's. His concentration and technique is not nearly as good as Read's

Squad more than a team

Considering that England wanted the bulk of the 2005 Ahses side as their ODI team, I think I'll pick a squad instead of a team.

Bell - as an Australian, I was wondering WTF he was doing in the England team in 05. Reading further on, I discovered that he was England's golden child, he's done well since than, but he really needs to step it up and opening the batting will allow him to do so
Tresco - depending on his mental state. No point in him being an 'England' specialist.
Cook - been good at Test level, being only 22, its hard to argue that he's not quality, promising and young enough to be thinkinh towards 2011
Pieterson
Collingwood
Bopara - probably have to bat him ahead of Collingwood, he would be a wwaste of a batsman any lower than 5. Once again young and with 2011 in mind...
Flintoff
Joyce - I don't think he should be opening, he could play a similar role to that of Michael Clarke, so around number 5 or 6 should be suitable for him
Mahmood - I don't think I've sen his name mentioned in the previous 6 pages. Now it maybe be bias by me (because I'm an Aussie with an Indian background), but I can definetly see potential in him. Even though he is expensive - its coming down, he can be a game-braeker
Anderson - taking steps to be England's new spearhead
Panesar
Wicketkeeper - ???
Dalrymple - has had his moments with the bat and ball and with the way ODI cricket is going, the need for all-rounders is increasing
Lewis/Plunkett

Pleae bare in mind, that I have seen little County cricket, so I don't really know what other options are available for England. Also, the options of keepers really confuses me. I'll assume that Jones will struggle to make the Kent XI, Read is too slow for ODis and Nixon is too old.

Personally, I think alot of change is needed, we have a relatively weak bowling attack, and no-one who will be able to control an economy rate on such a frequent basis. It would look like this...

Its a fairly odd squad (I like it - The odd Squad.) Broad is a tall lad, hits the deck hard and honestly suprised not to see him in Hobart. He convinced me against Pakistan he can deal with this sort of thing. Collingwood has time after time proven that he isnt a bad little bowler in ODI's, Deceptive medium pace keeps the rate down, and can get a wicket or two. And I guess is should explain this.... Sidebottom in because he can keep a rate down. Incredible campaign in 2006, The one day arena certainly. He's likely to take 2 or 3 per game, and the amount of effort he puts in is unbelieveable.

Oh, and it'll be hard to steal Rankin, since to steal requires something not to be yours ITFP.

With Flintoff a 10 over bowler and Collingwood and Dalrymple very handy bowlers, you only need 3 specialist bowlers. In this team you have 6 quality bowlers plus KP can bowl 1 or 2 if required.

All you guys picking Loye have lost your minds - there's no chance at all of him being any good (if he's still playing) for WC2011. Nor can I see any point in picking Nixon beyond this Cup, he was only ever a short-term choice. For the same reason there's no point going for Nic Pothas now, either. I don't see any reason Read should not be given another chance, either - he's a better one-day batsman than any of the other remote possibilities (Jones, Foster, Davies). If Van Jaarsveld wants to play, he should be straight in there, but no way should he be given the gloves.

And did someone seriously suggest Darren Gough might be a chance for the 2011 Cup?
