How old were you....

I still think that it would be better to use the suggestion of starting all players in the CWLand age-range of 15-20 regardless of their IRL age, as I think it would be better to allow for players to stay around a lot longer - Malone and Goff are already getting on (especially with the fact that CWLand years move twice as fast as IRL years), and I think that's penalising them for being older IRL. I mean, if eddie was still playing...

It makes sense that Malone (8 seasons) and Goff (9 seasons) would be the oldest though. I think that after a certain age players may be allowed to retire and be re-incarnated, as Malone jr. (Josh?), Goff jr., etc. etc.

How old would eddie be if he wanted to return? :p

EDIT: And how old would he have been while he was playing?

I think something like 35-40 would be a decent time for retirement.

For an idea of age when playing games, Hick is 39, Chris Harris is 36 as is Lara, Mark & Steve Waugh finished up at around 37/38. I'd say that if we had to set exact dates, no fast bowler should play beyond 35, no batsman, slow bowler or spinner beyond 40.

And Kennett (9 Seasons)

:p

Shameless advertising of the Kennett Franchise.

I think fast bowlers can go on after 35, but their effectiveness and speed would be scaled down (reverse experience points after 35 for fast bowlers, after 37 for spinners, after 36 for batsmen).

Would I be about right in saying that fast bowlers would slow down a lot earlier than 35? More likely they would begin to slow at 30, I'd imagine... not sure though. I know Lee is 29 and Bond / Akhtar are 30 at the moment, but I expect them to all show a gradual decline in speed over the next five years unless they intend on going out with some kind of strain injury.

Around 31/32 would probably be a more accurate point at which speed stats to fall away noticeably.

Exactly what I didn't want to happen to CWXI, aging/retirement/decline.

Ahh well, I suppose it was inevitable....

You've got lots of time left yet. I think people are understimating how long it takes to age. There are only about 3 Dev League seasons per year.

Hence why I think players should start at age 15-20 regardless of how old they are IRL. That's only fair, as far as I'm concerned - at the very least they should have the option. This will still put 10 years on a lot of players who started long ago (making them 25-30), but with about a 20 season career length, I think it's about right.

I don't like the idea of people starting as young as 15. 17 at the very least.
