Hayden calls Harbhajan an obnoxious weed

If anyone comes out looking bad out of this Interview then it is Hayden. I have been a great fan of him and very disappointed to hear those comments. Obviously he has lost a fan.

Also the majority aussie reaction in this thread has been a disgrace.

poor excuse for a human being that is Harbhajan Singh..
Dont you think you are getting a bit carried away ? How much do you really know him to make a comment like that ? He obviously isn't very well behaved or well mannered on the cricket field and very annoying character on a cricket field, but from what one has known about him outside of cricket, he doesn't come across as a bad human being at all.

I am not really too sure why everyone is getting so het up about it to be honest
8-) 8-) If Sehwag had said the same thing about Symonds the whole aussie nation would have erupted with anger and name calling.

Good stuff. Hayden speaks the truth and adds some more fire to the series.

I think the Australians generally get along with the Indian team pretty well. I'd say a majority of them can have a good chat and laugh after a game. Harbhajan seems to be an exception to this though. And given some of the things he's done lately, you can't blame the Australians for hating him.
Obnoxious weed is sort of a funny line anyway. More than I'd have expected of Hayden.

Hayden's spot on.

the war

India may lose the battle in the finals, but wait till the Aussies come to India later this year.

The Aussies will not know what will hit them, mental disintegration will take on a different meaning come the end of that tour !

India will get back the Gavaskar-border Trophy as this is what I call it, imo the border name tarnishes it?

How on Earth is this good? Detracting from the cricket, causing tension between the BCCI and CA, making himself look like a goon to all but the most biased Australians. It's not good at all, it's just making a mockery of the Australian's so called 'sportsmanship'. For a start, I've always had a respect for people who speak the truth, but when there is no need to say something that is basically just an insult, then why say it? For the sake of 'adding more fire'?

And given some of the things he's done lately, you can't blame the Australians for hating him.
No, I don't blame the players or crowds for disliking Harbhajan (hate is too strong IMO). But there is no justificiation behind making these comments. Even if Hayden really does hate Harbhajan, it isn't exactly his place to come out in public and start insulting him. I expected more from Hayden.

Well why would you think that about Border mate?

Edit: Swervy's from England I think - don't believe he's an Aussie supporter.

He can have a shot all he wants, but I'm wondering what Border has done to apparently sully the trophy by having his name on it?

Whatever it takes!!!
Also from that link:

"The most important defense to an action for defamation is "truth", which is an absolute defense to an action for defamation."

I think Hayden's pretty safe.
not really.

Any good lawyer can tear his "I m telling the truth"bit to pieces..

And btw, that defense applicable when Bhajji calls Symonds a monkey????????

The fact that he is a first rate idiot who refused to allow Kapil some water when his shot accidentally killed a bird and he was juz trying to do the traditional thing by his religion???

Or because he showed disgust and contempt at the umpires and at the batsman when Steve Waugh picked up a ball that was rolling on the ground off a shot by Krish Srikkanth in the 1986 ODI series and then claimed a bloody catch??????

Seriously HBH, you really need to settle on down mate.

If that's what sullies the trophy in your eyes, so be it. Not that my remark was in any way addressed to you in the first place.

Good old Sunny's famous dummy-spitting walk off and his overtly racist remarks about WI crowds in his autobio don't affect his entitlement to be on the trophy though, right?

Maybe we should re-name it the Harby-Symonds Trophy.

Chill mate.

court, sure... Sports arbirtration????????

The rules and spirit of cricket are quite different from normal law, right????
But we weren't talking about that. It was suggested it should go off to a court of law.

Certainly, his comments were inappropriate in the spirit of the game context, but I don't think you'd win a court case on them.

Don't see what was wrong with Faaip & Kazo's comments. Judging by the reaction from all fans in this thread, I think most people think that Hayden was pretty close to the mark. However, that doesn't mean we all agree he should be showing absolutely no tact and crapping on about it to the media.

I agree with you re: SST & Swervy though, but they're hardly the majority.

nah.. Sunny is no angel but personally, I don't think he was as bad as Border.

And yeah, would rather have the trophy named after some other worthies, tbh. :)

Neither of them were great examples to follow in terms of behaviour...
