Who would you guys leave out for the next game against South Africa to make way for Vettori and possibly Mills?

I'd be tempted to leave Nathan McCullum in there, as I reckon we've got a better chance of keeping the runs down against SA with our spinners than our seamers.

I'd personally bring in Mills for O'Brien and Vettori for Franklin or even Oram.
Is it confirmed Vettori won't play against SA ?

I haven't heard anything about whether Vettori will or won't play against SA.

I wonder if Styris will roll his arm over at all.

O'Brien and Nathan McCullum without question. McCullum's batting's not relevant at all given he'd be due to come in at #9, and despite a good domestic record, I think he'd be taken apart by South Africa. He's gone at over 10 runs per over in five Twenty20 Internationals for a reason.

Furthermore, despite being the only spinner in the team and despite Scotland hammering the pacemen to all quarters, the captain (who was his brother) didn't turn to him at all. Even Ryder was preferred.

Franklin and Oram are two of the first names down on the team-sheet IMO. I'd even play Franklin as a specialist batsman ahead of Guptill, Ryder and McGlashan in Twenty20 cricket.

Jeets has been going pretty well in the English stuff. Though I'd say Jeets is the better bowler, McCullum is his equal in the field and far better with the bat.

O'Brien wouldn't have even been in my squad so Mills for him is a no brainer and Vettori for Oram

Made me cringe when Ross Taylor came out.
"Ross Taylor. Right Handed Bat. Favourite Shot - Slog Sweep"
Haha, I was cringing too.

I love those little intros.
Someone should say - "Favourite shot - Six." or "Favourite shot - Reverse Block."

Agree with most of that, but Ryder is definitely a better bat than Franklin. Different circumstances would change the order for me.

If NZ got off to a good start:

1. B. McCullum
2. J. Ryder
3. R. Taylor
4. J. Franklin
5. S. Styris
6. M. Guptill
7. J. Oram
8. P. McGlashan+
9. D. Vettori*
10. I. Butler
11. K. Mills

If NZ lost quick wickets:

1. B. McCullum
2. J. Ryder
3. M. Guptill
4. R. Taylor
5. S. Styris
6. J. Franklin
7. J. Oram
8. P. McGlashan+
9. D. Vettori*
10. I. Butler
11. K. Mills

Bowling is probably as strong as it can get, albeit having McGlashen at 8.

Should get 4 overs from Butler and Vettori, about 3 overs a piece from Franklin and Mills, and Oram, Ryder and Styris can share 6 overs.

I completely disagree with your batting structure for good starts and losing wickets.
The top 3-4 are perfect but Franklin is certainly a better option for when we lose wickets. He takes a while to get his eye in and likes to work the ball around before attempting the big shots. McGlashan or N McCullum would be the go to guys for striking from the word go.
No point at all at having a batsman like McGlashan at 8, heck even 7 would be pretty much wasting him.

The only change I made was Guptill goes down after we get a good start, basically because Franklin is better at continuing momentum and can later hit. When we loose quick wickets Guptill will be more solid and can have time to get himself in, he is not very good against spin so he will have time to get his eye in and attack the quicker bowlers.

McGlashen could come in higher if we're off to a flier but Styris and Oram are probably better and hitting so hes just there in case of a disaster.

Lol at this thread :p

Once again some genuine fear from the kiwis (and rightly actualy) and Scaly hovering hoping he'd have his chance to be a **** after England lost to the Netherlands.

Not bad from MacLeod- he is with a county at the moment so he must have a bit about him. Drummond not doing badly either. They are just working them though, see how they react when SA have a go.
