What the **** is this bullshit?Kapil's batting avg was 27 or 28 in 80s ( comparable to Klusner's career length ) with a Strike rate of 105, thats like averaging 30 at 140 sr in 90s.
And Klusner was not an ATG batsman, 40 avg at 90sr would have earned him the reputation of 2nd best batsman in the world. But thats not the case, because 40 avg was inflated by not outs ( Same with Kapil) I consider Kapil to be a 30 avg batsman in real terms and Klusner a 35 avg batsman. ( after adjusting era and strike rates for their peak 10 years )
Always here for a bit of Freddie love. If we’d taken white ball seriously when he was a player I suspect he would be a more serious candidate- which you kind of address but ultimately I understand why he gets overlooked.More recently I think JAMODIs are a joke. During Flintoff/Pollock's career they were serious tournaments with mostly full strength sides with a few exceptions.
I think cricket is too high variance to read so much into one tournament every four years when we don't have to. More recently - yes absolutely I will do that, especially for batsmen given how often bowlers are rested. JAMODIs and WC ODIs are basically entirely different levels - not because of 'clutch' but because of the quality of the opposition. I do think Martin Guptill is total fraud to give one example, and Hashim Amla is up there on this front too.
On Pollock/Flintoff - I could be swayed a little bit if their personal WC records were also actually ****. (I haven't actually checked - please show me if they were!) But I'm not going to punish them for their teammates being crap or losing one off games.

I gotta say that this ranking system can only be the biggest load of tripe imaginable. What's the method that creates the order of that list?Viv's greatness aside, a few other observations here:
- ODI cricket really is a batsman's game, isn't it? You've got to go a long way down that list before you start seeing the bowlers - Starc shines like a beacon being as high as he is.
- Gordon Greenidge, wow, I didn’t expect that. When he was good, he was exceptional.
- I know it has all been said before, but the sheer volume of Sachin's achievements is staggering.
- I bloody love a list that has blokes who aren't the usual suspects in such high positions - great to see the likes of Guptil, Marsh and Lamb mixing it with the greats.
I guess that's why it's "player of the match", not "player of the match also taking into consideration their career achievements and statistics"I gotta say that this ranking system can only be the biggest load of tripe imaginable. What's the method that creates the order of that list?
Could give many examples here but just look at Geoff Marsh for instance. He had an ODI strike rate of 55.9. Honestly that's ****ing hopeless.
There's literally tons of players below him who were classes and classes above him.

thats a bit harsh on MarshI gotta say that this ranking system can only be the biggest load of tripe imaginable. What's the method that creates the order of that list?
Could give many examples here but just look at Geoff Marsh for instance. He had an ODI strike rate of 55.9. Honestly that's ****ing hopeless.
There's literally tons of players below him who were classes and classes above him.
Fair points you make here mate. Watched him as a player his entire career and he was very very good.thats a bit harsh on Marsh
56 isnt great but from 1985-1992 when Marsh played international cricket openers in odis had a strike rate of 60 on average so Marsh was under par but the overall average was 31.75 where as for Marsh it is just .03 off 40. he was also the 3rd highest run scorer in the 1987 world cup
1971 to 1996 WCthats a bit harsh on Marsh

Not that I want to disagree with a list with Viv on top, but those awards favour top order bats to a completely disproportionate degree. Look how far down you need to go to hit someone who is not a top order bat, and how much further you need to go to hit a specialist bowler.1.Viv

And Attappattu > Bevan, Dhoni, Akram.. Etc
Btw
Team strength is a major advantage in this case. Mostly award is given to winning team.
Sachin is at a disadvantage there.. Also he played for almost 25 yrs wont help either.
