More recently I think JAMODIs are a joke. During Flintoff/Pollock's career they were serious tournaments with mostly full strength sides with a few exceptions.Yeah but a lot of ODIs in the 2000s were low stake meaningless affairs. Did they shows up in tournaments? Raw stats can be misleading.
I think cricket is too high variance to read so much into one tournament every four years when we don't have to. More recently - yes absolutely I will do that, especially for batsmen given how often bowlers are rested. JAMODIs and WC ODIs are basically entirely different levels - not because of 'clutch' but because of the quality of the opposition. I do think Martin Guptill is total fraud to give one example, and Hashim Amla is up there on this front too.
On Pollock/Flintoff - I could be swayed a little bit if their personal WC records were also actually ****. (I haven't actually checked - please show me if they were!) But I'm not going to punish them for their teammates being crap or losing one off games.
