Well Bob Willis was suberb in that series.
He did get 29 wickets granted, but Botham actually took 34 (and scored 399 runs - more then any other Englishman) - hence it's Botham's Ashes.

... and Brearley's. Let's not forget how crappy Botham was as captain in the first two tests.

On second thoughts ... Let's forget the whole series ever occurred.

Winning the Ashes back after 20 years in 1954-55.

Botham performed magnificently in 1981 but Australia were not that great so the achievement as a whole was not as big as the one mentioned above.

McGrath brought back for one final effort, they've mopped him off
the floor
5 runs needed to win, 4 runs to tie
119.1 McGrath to Lara, two runs, EDGES! wide of Warne at 1st slip, so so
close, ball fielded inside the rope
119.2 McGrath to Lara, no run, around the wicket, defended very well down
the wicket from outside the off stump
3 to win
119.3 McGrath to Lara, no run, defended down the wicket again
119.4 McGrath to Lara, no run, big shot, in the air, but fielded safely
in the outfield whilst Lara doesn't take the run
119.5 McGrath to Lara, wide: no run, incredible drama, a bouncer wide of
the off stump, McGrath trying to keep Lara on strike, Orchard
makes the call
119.5 McGrath to Lara, one run, bouncer, hooked, into the ground, there's
not enough time for a second, the scores are level, West Indies
have at least saved the game
1 ball to bowled to Walsh, 1 run to win
all 11 crowding around the batsmen
119.6 McGrath to Walsh, no run, straight down the off side, Walsh watches
it go past with his bat at the ready

End of over 120 (4 runs) West Indies 307/9 (1 more runs req)
GD McGrath 44-13-92-5 (1w) - Media Centre End
BC Lara 149* (255b 18x4 1x6) CA Walsh 0* (5b)

Gillespie to bowl.....
120.1 Gillespie to Lara, FOUR, he's done it, what an unbelievable match.
Flogs a cover drive to the boundary, what a win, what a game.
West Indies team invades the field to hug Lara, the crowd follow
them
the winning ball was wide of the off stump, Lara just slammed it
into the vacant cover outfield
one of the best Test matches ever surely, topped off with one of
the best comebacks ever... from 98/6 chasing 490 in the 1st
innings
but surely we're all agreed that ODIs are a better form of the
game? No?
presentations to start soon, followed by a couple of day of
celebration for the West Indies, and a couple of days of
recriminations for Australia
no doubt we'll see a few changes for the 4th Test, a new opener
here, a different bowler there, a new keeper perhaps, maybe even
another vice-captain
Steve Waugh being interviewed: "cricket is the winner... best Test
I've ever played in.... It was just a great game.... they (WI)
saved their best for this match"
Lara gets a huge cheer "It was a great team effort... a great Test
match... When Aust batted first I thought it was going to be a
hard Test to win... We're a re looking forward to Antigua"
and the Man of the Match is some unknown chap called Blain Laura or
something

2 Landmarks for NZ in tests would have to be:

- First series wins in England (1999) & The West Indies (2002)
- First series win over Australia, Hadlee's incredible one-man show.

ODI's:

- ICC Knockout win in 2000
- VB Series 2001/2002
- NZ's unlikely win over South Africa (taking into account previous win/loss records, needing over 300 to win etc) World Cup 2003.
Does no one remember the fact that NZ won the series against England in England in 1986 by 1-0?

- India vs Aus 2001......best.series.ever. :football:
.
.
- World cup 83 ( beating WI 2-1 , Aus 1-1 , Eng 1-0 , Two great comebacks in the game vs Zim and the final) :band:
.
-World Series 85 win where India were unbeaten in all matches. It was the only true 'World Series' as 7 test playing nations took part. And the losing finalist was Pakistan (Sorry ,I had to rub it in)
.
- Beating Pakistan 4-0 in World cups after starrting as underdogs in atleast 3 of those matches.
.
- Indias overall record at the ICC Champions Trophy...beating Aus 2-0 in the league stages , beating Saf 2-0 in the semis. Sending Aus back home 48 hours after they had landed in Dhaka for the Knockout :stretcher . In the 2002 Champions trophy , coming back from the dead against Zim ( Kaif scoring a century coming in at no7) , knocking the stuffing out of England , choking Saf to death in a match they should have won easily ( that has to be the most ridiculous match played by Saf :goof: ) ,Leading in both finals against Sri Lanka.( Damn rain :mad2: )
.
-Chasing 406 to win vs Windies :notworthy
.
-Chasing 316 vs Pakistan , 326 vs England , 325 vs Windies to win :flex:
.
-Bowling out Pakistan for 100 after India had scored 128 in the final of the Sharjah cup in the 80's.
.
-2003 WC , reaching the final :dj:
.
-2003-04 tour of Aus tests :hockey:
.
-Historic tour of Pakistan :inlove:

1. Readmission into test cricket, the welcome by the Indians, and AAD's performance in the ODI's.

2. Graeme Smith's double hundreds in England during 2003. And his partnership with Herschelle in Edgbaston

3. Pat Symcox throwing a tinny full of urine over an aussie fan who had just handed it to him on the boundary edge.
