Since June 2001 Ganguly has scored 3096 runs @ 40.02, including centuries against South Africa, England and Australia. Not the most spectacular record but its still an average of 1000 runs per season so we shouldn't write him off just yet.
are you sure he made one against Australia in that time ?

I was at the match at the MCG where he made that ton against us and I am sure it's the only one he has. That was 1999 I think..

besides 40 is nothing special considering how many runs he has plundered against the minow teams.

Everyone feel free to yell abuse at me but I really dont see how anyone can rate Ganguly in the top 5 or even 10..

especialy lately in ODI's he has done nothing at all.
i certainly wouldnt put him in my top 5, 10 maybe right at the bottom.
i find it hard to belive that so many people put him, anwar and inzamam ahead of javed miandad.

In his prime he wasnt.. It was just the last 2 or so years that he started batting real slow and takeing forever to get going.

Thats not very fair. Ganguly has a very impressive ODI record particularly as an opener. Lets give the devil its due.

Too bad many people unfairly run down his record . 19 (?) centuries and an average of 42 dont come easily to any batsman. People say he has had a poor 3 year period now( and thats rubbish too.His average during the past 3 years has still been 40 ) . That has caused his average to plummet from 45 to 42 . And 42 is supposed to be bad if some reactions are to go by :frusty: .

It just shows how good a player he is to maintain a terrific average despite having 3 years of supposedly less than par performances. :notworthy

You're right Eclipse it was Kenya, I misread the stats. As for an average of 40.00 I think quite a few batsman would be happy with that, especially with the added burden of having to captain a side.

Let's not forget that Ganguly doesn't open the innings anymore. That's where he was at his best. That being said I still would rather Sachin and Sehwag opening in ODIs.

He played like a machine. But that doesn't mean he was boring. If he was, how come the matches where Bevan brought the victory home for the Aussies were the most exciting?

OK bevan vs ganguly then who is a better one day batsman *when on top form*?
Because of their totally different styles of play, as well as utility to their team, I don't see a point in comparing the two.

I do however believe that both are all-time greats of the shorter version of the game.

He's actually done well only on the sub-continent. And generally, the sub-continent is considered as a single cricket region...

hmmmm maybe a fairier comparison would be dravid vs bevan then?
If it's for ODIs, I'd rate Bevan higher. I still think it's a comparison that shouldn't be made, but if asked to pick who's been better, I'd say Bevan...

Have to say that at the moment I feel that Ramnaresh Sarwan is one of the top ODI batsman around. Seems to finish games a lot just like Bevan. Clearly Gayle is good for the WI but he isn't quite as consistant and doesn't finish like Sarwan
