Run/wicket tally plays a massive role. I bet Jayawardene would comfortably win against like Crowe outside of CW. Same with Anderson vs Roberts.
Sehwag < Boycottwell it is reflective of the broader tolerance for mediocrity in English sporting culture (and many other aspects of English culture)
ATG 3, English Great like a dozen. How many great cricketers debuted for England after 1970?
Botham, Root and Anderson I'm guessingATG 3, English Great like a dozen.
Gooch would still be my pick though.Another advantage Cook has when it comes to stuff like that is he is a very popular figure whereas Pietersen's character polarises opinion a lot. The BBC shortlist was put together just months after Cook's retirement. Being so fresh in the memory likely broadened nostalgia etc.
I suspect KP is rated higher. I know a lot of people who still rate him over Root etc.

Guess saying Jayawardene comfortably winning against Crowe is reasonable is not hypocritical at all.what is a man if not a hypocrite
Yeah I'm very surprised Gooch is winning his. I think it's Philander and not close. He was a seriously gun #8 as well that should factor in to his rating as a cricketer - his batting average undersells him for the same real his bowling average flatters him. When philander got conditions to his liking and powered up the bass cannon, he became unstoppable.
Gooch>HaydenGooch over Philander is a laughable take, for me.
Man had one great innings, and we can't stop riding his dick. Terrible analysis.

Ian Botham and Joe RootHow many great cricketers debuted for England after 1970?
Yeah he is. But in helpful conditions, Philander is Significantly better than Gooch imo. Also, an underrated bat.Gooch is better in tough batting conditions than Philander in tough conditions for seamers
