Dravid, Kallis, Sanga, G Smith, Root, De Villiers?
Dravid definitely despite himself having a fair few holes away (SA, SL and his Aus average is a bit inflated), Kallis and Graeme Smith around equal. The rest not for me, though Root and ABD are close. Kohli has just too many ATG/near ATG tours.

I care more about big series/match performances rather than just rating them on averages
It's not just averages. Many others have higher away averages than Kohli does, but also these players have well rounded consistent performances in most countries they have travelled too and have many great performances there as well. Hence, I'd go with them

My second xi for combined Aus-Eng since 1970 might be mostly English players

Those are very weak batting options at 8. I'd rather have Stokes/Flintoff at 7 with Healy at 8, or Healy at 7 with one of Harris or Mitch J at 8.
