I'm sure that there will come a time - but I don't think that's right now.sledger said:he may have the support of the players but the support of the selectors is totally different. Just because hes Freddies pal doesnt mean he wont get sacked, although i like him, there will come a time when the selectors say enough is enough if he keeps making these errors, although i still believe he has the talent to suceed at that level.

sorry... I meant he very nearly lost the Ashes for England. lol.sledger said:
Why, when Jones' keeping has improved (how many misses in Pakistan was it?) and Prior is known to be worse with the gloves?social said:Prior has proven that he's at least his equal with the bat, let him keep for once!
15 in the 3 Pakistan games (and by comparison, Akmal let by 13 in just the last innings of the series)LongHopCassidy said:IMO very negative selection by England. If you subtract the byes he concedes from his batting average, there are many better alternatives with the gloves.
Remember Trent Bridge? Flintoff and Jones' 177-run stand? Reckon Read would've got us even halfway there?LongHopCassidy said:Can't believe I voted 'back him' several months back!

Read may not be the finest bat but he will NOT cost the side unnecessary runs.
TBF to Geraint I suspect he's actively encouraged to score his runs quickly. A case in point is Prior's selection over Read for the Pakistan tour. Read actually averaged about 12 more in 2005 than Prior (45 to 33, or thereabouts) but Prior was picked bcaused he scored his runs more rapidly.vic_orthdox said:The onus needs to be put on him to be a batsman, not a "Wicketkeeper who makes runs". Because he's good enough to, but at the moment seems to impetuous. I think he'll mature within the next year, and will never be a superstar with the gloves. But when you've got a decent tail to bat with like he does, he needs to realise that there's no hurry. Wait for the right ball, feed that cut shot, and he'll be fine.
