How does quoting Steve Waugh Qualify as an opinion ? for example If I write the following from the above link :-

'Australian captain said, "Ganguly's call for the use of a video replay breached ICC regulations."'

I am sure that is my opinion, in that case every news report about Ganguly must be an opinion of the writer, isn't it ??
If all a news report contains is quotes from a certain player then it isn't a report, or story, it's an interview. If it contains, however, quotes etc from certain players and includes the authors own take on what these mean (ie Waugh is a bad sport/ isn't a bad sport and so on and so forth) then it is their opinion on what the player has said - not necessarily fact.

Of course, it is. Whe is he to point out Ganguly's dress code esp when he himself and his team members have been seen walking around halg naked ir in shorts during presentation ceremonies numerous times.
Of course they have - why have we seen this factually presented in media reports then?

Whatever you call it Interview ,report but it's not the opinion of the reporter, he was just quoting Steve Waugh. He never said Steve Waugh was good or bad.

So it was a one line 'article', just Steve's quote and that's it? There was no elaboration by the reporter or anything else?

Well, his captaincy record suggests he's more likely to be accused BY sore losers than actually be one himself.

It's somewhat bemusing that the Aussie team are accused of being the worst sportsmen in the world, cheats etc etc by different people on here yet if we bring up something regarding another team then we're the *******s again. It's ok for teams to come out and say that we're serial sledgers etc and their word is taken as fact, yet when the shoe's on the other foot...........nothing. Maybe they're just...........sore losers. :-O

What I find funny is that quite a few people on here seem to construct their opinions entirely through other people's articles - deeming them to be fact because they appeared in a newspaper. If you said "in my opinion Steve was crying over dress code" instead of presenting it as a known fact then it'd come across a little better. Using words like "crying" and "sore loser" suggests that you're merely trying to belittle the guy instead of coming up with some concrete evidence to prove what you're saying. I'd take a picture of Waugh with tears streaming down his face and a hanky in his hand as evidence that he may have been crying (you can also use a similar pic to suggest he's a sore loser if you like). :p
