So in scallywag's world a one-time offence should always carry less penalty than multiple offence....
well in that case, i should be able to successfully argue that a one-time murder should get less time than 20th violation of the ICC timerule....
Keep in mind that cricketers are NOT exempt to the laws of the country and Lehmann's disgraceful behaviour is in 'hate crime' category.
Not that i contest this ban of Ganguly's- its deserved....but in retrospect, Lehmann deserved a FAR bigger ban for his indescrition.
Racism is a FAR serious issue than simple slowing down a cricket game.

But then again...thats Scallywag....virulent defence of anything Australian, just because he is an aussie....even the most diabolical stuff .
Ah misplaced rabid nationalism, thy name is Scallywag.

Lehman was an idiot for saying rasist comments but really everyone is rasist and he was doing it to put the opposition off thier game, deserved a bigger ban perhaps but honestly I would never be offended if someone called me Black or Maori.
Would you? Why should you?

you shouldnt really i suppose, but i think the thing is that many see those who use racist comments as seeing themselves as being of a superior race and that is what angers so many people.

First, Lehmann's verbatim was offensive....he did say black AND 'monkeys' alongside with it...
second, from all who heard, his tone was offensive.
the word 'whiteboy' for example can be interpreted as an observation that is part of a discussion or a racist attack based on tone...

lol some guy in a car called me whiteboy the other day whilst asking directions :p i wasnt offended, i was quite amused by the experience actually.

lol well for the recond the guy who called me that was perfectly friendly and not derogatory, not that i would have cared if he was mind you, i would have just shrugged it off.

It also had the 'c' word that rhymes with 'hunts' mixed in somewhere there, too.

Its not a question of whether you are personally affected by it or not..... i have faced racism from various groups and it didnt even make the proverbial scratch on the surface.....
The point is,it is a hostile behaviour without any cause and such action must be discouraged and not encouraged.
Others may not be able to shrug it off like you. For eg., you may not mind bein raped nearly as much as ABC but that doesnt mean you should encourage it.

It's not the adjective, it's the noun... plus, no, not everyone is racist - that's a ridiculous assertion.

think thats a little besides the point, i see racism as being definitely worng at all times it is indeed unnacetable. neither was it hostile so that gos out the window, and who mentioned rape, i think if that happened in cricket it would be lifetime ban for a player and jail. and no i dont encourage eitehr of those things.

why, are asian players given preferential treatment?
Yes, in general.. Although Lehmann should have faced a severe ban for his outburst..

Im trying to imagine the calls from pundits and the ICC if Murali was a Zimbabwean with 15 test wickets.. But thats a whole different story.

Langevelt- i think History would prove to you that in the past few hundred years, if anything, its the caucasians who get prefferential treatment. I would point to your own nation of origin for that.

If Asia did get preferrential treatment, you would see ICC changing laws to curb the aussie dominance like they did with the WI...first the lbw rule, then the bouncer rule....
If asia did get prefferential treatment you would see a lot more asian umpires in the mix.

If anything, you will find that cricket has been historically caucasian-centric.

Well i am talkin about the Lehmann incident- it was hostile and derogatory, a clear racist comment. And no, i dont mind a longterm ban from the sport due to an outburst of racism.

Finshing the innings 20-30 minutes late in a tense Ind-Pak game in 35 degree heat hardly calls for a six match ban.
He was 26 minutes late for the 50 over time, but it was only a 48 over innings (22 of which were bowled by spinners)

Following on from the previous efforts at being so slow he deserved the maximum ban IMO.

But isn't it the bowlers responsibility to make sure they get through their overs? Jogging back slowly to your mark takes no energy at all

being the captain ganguly is responsible for them and their organisation, although it may sound harsh it would seem that he has failed ti do so, and henceforth he will be punished.

have you EVER experienced Indian heat ??
with 22 overs being bowled by spinners who have very short run ups i dont think that would have been a great problem.
