Choora, you keep saying South Africa Will choke, but what if they don't?
They will then win the WC, and will become the first host team ever 2 win the WC!! But i know that is unlikely.I'm a big fan of Proteas, its unfortunate that they can't keep the cool (like the Aussies) in big games:(

Out of interest, aside from the Champions Trophy, I can't remember the last time they choked - do remind us I think it was back in the time of Hansie...

Australia can't take the pressure? What the hell? They lost to Sri Lanka in the 96 World Cup and ok they didn't get to the final of the VB series last year but come on, they have won everything else weather or not there was pressure (including the 99 World Cup) so how can you say that they can't handle the pressure?

When they faced Aussies last time in a test and onedayer series they just gave up the game b4 it had actually started, so they never came to a point of being under pressure!

Not only in the Max game, but also in the super six competition in HK earlier this year, never mind the format of the game!

I think I may have said this earlier - but apart from v Aussie, who else does SA 'choke' against ?????? I think they may have a 'thing' v the Aussies, just like a lot of other teams, & as NZ don't seem to be able to get past the mind set to beat SA!!!!

;)

Well they have lost finals to other teams like to India in the Titan cup Final, although they had beaten India in all the 3 prefinal games.

Anyway you look at it, they haven't been as big chokers as India over the past 4-5 years.

unless I am mistaken 'loosing' a game is something entirely different to 'choaking'.......

'choaking' implies that the team / player was in a winning / commanding / dominant position in the match / game, and then fell to pieces & went on to loose the game (hand the victory to the opposition), rather than get beaten by being outplayed by the better player / team......

:)

That's true, infact in one of my post i had pointed out the fact that every loss is not a result of choking. However in the final of the Titan cup, SA loss was a result of choking.SA was a better team in the whole tournament, they defeated the Indian team thrice before the final, and were the fav's for the cup.In the final their batters simply crumbled under pressure when they really should have won the game, something which Afrikans got to avoid in the WC!

No denying that, but things have changed since the arrival of new players in Sehwag/Mongia and especially Kaif and Yuvraj.Indians were chronic chokers mainly because they used to rely heavily on one man , i.e"Sachin Tendulkar" , as soon as he used to depart, the rest of the batters just used to follow him.But thanks to new blood, things have changed and Indian team no longer depends on Sachin, infact in most of the recent Indian victories Sachin had very little role to play!

By the same token, SA have a lot of new faces coming through...

They have?? I wonder then why Glen and Warne was so harsh on SA then? they criticise Afrikans on being mentally weak and giving up the match before it had already started!

Don't worry, they do it before every series. It gets quite boring after a while as they just keep saying the same stuff.

No thats not correct, other teams have played better against Aus than the way SA played against Aussies.SA simply were never in the game, even SA's ex cricketers had criticised the players for their spinelss display

The only team to fare decently in Australia recently has been NZ. All other teams have been thrashed.

Rik, you can say that kind of talk gets boring after a while, but isn't it also true that most of the time, it is found to be a fact? The other teams are just not as mentally strong and confident as the Australians. I am not supporting this mental disintegration policy(a grandoise word for trash talking), but with or without that, the other teams are at a psychological disadvantage anyway.

I have no problem with critisism if there is reason but quite often we end up having big England slagoffathons and quite strangely they are all from Indian Supporters. And the Aussies, but at least they usually keep it as a joke.
