Seemed like it was no trouble for other teams as we specifically saw McLaren do it just fine. Very lucky imo.

It doesn't really work out like that though does it. If you've made a decision to stay out longer, then you're out of position.

The Alpine team finished 2nd and 3rd without making a pitstop between them. Not to take away from their efforts, because they drove fantastically well once they were in that position, but that's a massive competitive advantage.
If the rule were changed, then teams would approach it differently. The only reason to stay out was because of high possibility that there would be a red flag, or at the very least a safety car that would give them the advantage of the free or cheaper stop.

If that's removed, they wouldn't have even taken the chance.

Possibly something they can look at changing.

There was a safety car in this specific case and they chose to stay out.

I would guess (without any data to support it) that a significant number of red flag scenarios are immediately preceded by at least a small period under safety car or virtual safety car procedures.

Gg. Come to Supercars Bottas! He would also be a sensible RBR option. His qualy alone is a marked improvement on Perez.

Except they didn't pick washed up Drivers. Perez finished 4th in the Driver Championship in 2020, only behind Verstappen and the two Mercedes drivers who had an ATG car. His teammate finished 11th.

The drivers before Perez were Kvyat, Gasly and Albon who were promoted from the sister team having come through their Young Driver scheme.

Perez was addressed above, but Bottas has been hampered from showing his ability either way by the crate he drives. He was hardly shithouse before being dropped by Merc.

As Max himself has stated though, he doesn’t want to be Alonso or Hamilton necessarily driving when he’s 40. They’ve also got to plan for the future and picking Bottas isn’t exactly doing that.

ik they’ve had talks with Colapinto in some capacity (whether RB or Red Bull itself who knows) but I agree, some combination of Tsunoda/Lawson/Colapinto in those 3 seats is what’s needed next year. (I’d prefer Lawson in the top team cos bias)

By my count there are 7 drivers who've driven in F1 this year that do not have a drive contract for next year: Bottas, Zhou, Colopinto, Magnussen, Lawson, Ricciardo, Sargeant.

Now Lawson should get the last seat still available at VCARB but he's not signed yet. I also think you can add Perez to that list soon. I don't remember so many drivers changing in one season?

Rookies with first full time drive next year: Bearman, Doohan, Antonelli, Bortolito (Lawson and Colapinto TBC)
