Establishing the best decade for cricket: Finding the ATG XI from 12 decades of test cricket - then having a KO tourney to decide the best

International Captain
Billy Murdoch, Bobby Abel
AG Steel - I think a spin bowling allrounder would be a good fit for this side as it would allow us to fit in Charlie Turner and Tom Richardson, both of whom are better bowlers than Peel or Briggs, without requiring a long tail.

I can see the appeal of that, to fit in all the batsmen we want.

But surely Blackham has to get the gloves?
Was trying to think of keepers of that era, couldn't think of any, but of course there's Blackham.

Murdoch, Abel
Steel (incredible player)

Murdoch MacLaren

Would prefer a longer time frame in the future, do not enjoy missing sections of voting =/

Could we not rush this please? Four hours is not enough time to allow people a chance to vote.
I mean when it's 5-0(6-0 including your vote) in all 3 categories there was little point right?

Grace, Shrewsbury, Ranji, Spofforth and Lohmann were nearly as big a lock as Bradman at 3 in the 30s side

Has there been perhaps a bit of confusion in the voting and/or counting process? I don't think people have been voting for AG Steel as the team's spinner have they?

Ah fair enough - ignore me then! And I do like Zebra's reasoning because I'd love to get Richardson and Turner into the team too.

In the 19th century, Trumble averaged over 25 with just 3 wickets per match. That's not particularly strong for the era and definitely not worthy of selection over the likes of Steel, Peel and Briggs. He did much better in the 1900s, but we are not selecting a 1900s team here.

Trumble took 141 wickets in Test cricket—a world record at the time of his retirement—at an average of 21.78 runs per wicket. He is one of only four bowlers to twice take a hat-trick in Test cricket
Yeah, it's definitely harsh on Trumble but such is the nature of this that he suffers for his career being spread across two different qualifying eras. He was really unlucky to miss out to Blythe in the 1900s team, and while he was reasonably good in the 1890s he wasn't good enough to be picked for this team over the likes of Peel or Briggs.
