English national football, where do we go from here?

Not better to go off domestic form if they've played a higher level IMO.

I would also question what has changed that would now make him a definite pick in a squad - could easily argue for Milner, Cole, Johnson, Walcott and Lennon to all have bigger claims for a spot than him and there's not many managers name 6 wingers in a 23.
If all the above are fit & playign to potential all indeed should be ahead of Young. But Young i'd say has caught up with Lennon his given injury problems since the end of last season & the fact with arrivla of VDV @ spurs. He is likely to get less game time to impress - while Young consistent form & 1st team chances will most likely give him preference over Lennon for upcomign squad selection this season.

Joe Cole's claim for a spot is that he scored a cracking goal against Manchester United 5 years ago. Not exactly a strong case.

There's a reason Chelsea let him go and a reason he's at Liverpool.
What does club performances have to do with his international record?.

Cole was a fixture on the left for ENG between WC 06 qualifiers to WC 2010 qualifers up until he got that injury in Zagreb vs Croatia 2008. Which then caused him to miss most of the 08/09 season for Chelsea & when he came back in the 09/10, he took a while to return to his best.

Ancelotti wasn't too pleased with his progress last season & sort of lost faith in his ability & let him go. But once Cole gets a manager who believes in his ability he will always do well. Cole must always be in the national squad, ENG dont have the luxury nor quality depth to drop such a player.

You can't continue picking players based on glimpses of club form they showed 4 years ago. There's a reason Joe Cole fell out of favour at Chelsea, there's a reason Capello was reluctant to use him in South Africa and there's a reason he ended up at Liverpool - manages have cottoned to the fact that he's all hype and no substance.

Bollox, he had a serious injury. He was once a quality player IMHO. He's got the medals too.

More technical ability then almost any England player I've seen and with an impressive work-rate.

Yeah, he looks gone ATM, I'll admit, but he was well worth his place once upon a time.

Just turned on to see Young miss his mark by about 20 yards with a free kick.

Has it all been like this?

Yep, I'm resorting to arguing with the sweaty with a chip on his shoulder, to try and keep my mind off the lack of subtlety and guile.

Wright-Phillips. Why.

Alex Ferguson doing his bit for sweatie England haters by declaring Rooney might be fit. So of course we had to suffer another 95 minutes of complete ****ing ****e from him.

In Young's case, most definitely yes. The right side looked so much more dangerous than the left side, so 75% of the balls went out to the left.

As poster grecian already said, this is bollocks yo.

Again i dont know what does his club form have to do with his international record?. You are making it sound as if 4 years ago was the last time he did any notable for club or country, which is way of the mark.

The reason why he fell out of favour with Chelsea last season with Ancelotti & Capello was reluctant to use him during the WC was because of the serious injury that kept him out of the most of the 08/09 & he has not reached back that form since he return last season.

He hasn't done anything of note since his move to liverpool yes, but i dont believe its a sign that he is finished. Cole as i said just needs a manager who backs his ability which i know Hodgson does & he will be fine again i'm confident.

On ENGs performance. Well they just all had off nights TBH. No big issue for me, since i know they can played better as they showed vs Switzerland.

It was however another clear example of why as i've mentioned ENG should forget about using target men, especially as starting option (although injury circumstances left Capello no choice). Its was cringeworthy at times seeing all these useless long balls being hit up to Crouch & Davies...SMH.

Hopefully by the time EURO 2012, Rooney is back to his best so he can lead the line by himself in a 4-3-3 formation flanked by Walcott & Johnson. Or 4-4-2 with Defoe, where ENG will play good possession football & look to unlock defenses with pace & guile.

Also looking at the under-21 side. The options their look really impressing as they build ahead to the under 21 WC next year. I must say the side looks good enough to win the whole thing if all the players are available come next june:

-----------------------------------------------------------Loach/Fielding--------------------------------------------------------------------

Richards-------------------------------------Jones----------------------Smalling-----------------------------------------------Gibbs

-----------------------------------------------Muamba------------------Rodwell-----------------------------------------------------------

Walcott------------------------------------------------------Wilshire----------------------------------------------------------Strurridge

--------------------------------------------------------------Carolll-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Decent back-ups from Wickham, Henderson, Cattermole etc. Maybe its not all gloom post WC after all.

They are just ****. Less said about Kevin Davies, Ashley Young, SWP et cetera the better but Gerrard, Lampard, and Ferdinand should just **** off. They should not be given another chance for abject failure in the Ukraine and Poland.

It is going by that squad and you said that they might win it and then you have Carroll upfront. What a donkey.

England will qualify anyway. Euro 2008 was so much fun without them.

Ok. So i take it you dont rate Caroll. What about the rest of the youngsters?. Surely you must rate Wilshire, Gibbs, Rodwell?.
