English Domestic Season 2023

How's he done bowling wise in the latest rounds? He was dynamite early season as you'd expect but his firs has fizzled out as decks have gotten less juicy deeper into the season from what I gather. Is that right?
Cricinfo now gives you last 10 games played for all players. As he doesn't play any other format handy to give you his season in one go.

Answer is not as dominant as the early season which is what you'd expect from him. Last game best in a while.

Another attractive knock from Jamie Smith, but not for the first time he's given it away, caught once again and mid-on off a mis-timed drive. By no means the first time he's perished that way recently. All very disappointing. Those folks talking him as a potential England player may want to wait until he's got that sort of loose dismissal out of his system. And they certainly shouildn't be talking about him as a possible England keeper until he does the job for his county in the FC games.

Fast forward 30 minutes, and Matt Henry's lovely away movement was far too good for Foakes, who, it must be said, hasn't done a lot with the bat lately. Rather more than his captain, but nowhere near enough to demand an England place. Another quick wicket would mean Somerset looking set for a handy first innings lead.

Elsewhere, Essex are recovering well against Hampshire and look set for a decent first innings lead to keep their title charge on track. Their performances over the last couple of months or so have been really strong; probably the best team in the division since mid-June.

The award for most bizarre dismissal of the season surely goes to Roland-Jones in the Warks-Middlesex game.

Has anyone ever before been dismissed off a ball they hit for six?
Hit wicket according to the score-card.
Sounds like he did a Roy Fredericks in the 1975 WC Final, who fell back on his stumps as he hooked Lillee for six.

21 wickets so far at Edgbaston. Supposedly with 15 overs still to play. This one could be all over by lunch on Day 2.

video on nvplay:

Now that one is odd. It looks like he stepped back against his stumps after hitting a front-foot six over mid-on. Or he hit the stumps while swinging his bat after completing the shot. That's really careless. Whereas Fredericks fell backwards after hooking the ball.

Going back to TRJ, I suppose the question was whether the ball was still in play when he swung the bat after completing the shot.
If it had sailed over the boundary by then, surely he was not out? I've watched it a few times, and I think the ball was still flying across the outfied when he swung his bat, so fair enough.

Roland Jones clearly hit the bail off with his bat in the side-on replays, but impossible to tell if the ball was already over the boundary, fairly continuous movement of the bat. He didn't look remotely alarmed that he had hit the bail off.

A pleasant day out at Derby today but it has to be said that, Zak Chappell apart, Derbyshire bowled and fielded like a side at the bottom of division 2 and Glamorgan took full advantage.

As an aside, the pitch was extremely green, as have been several this year. Has anyone else noted a trend? The ball moved a fair bit when new, but not excessively.

Dropping down a level, I also recently went to Teddington CC (second XI Championship) and Bedford School (Minor counties). I would recommend a visit to both as each was most picturesque in its own way.

Been to Bedford School to watch 2nd XI cricket, in the past, don't remember the School being picturesque, good facilities though. Big runs, good pitch. Remember it more for being the day the news of Tom Maynard's death broke.

Just looked up the scorecard; Duckett, Stone, Livingstone, Mahmood, Kerrigan all on view

C Overton ct Foakes b J Overton.

How many times have twin brothers dismissed one another in first-class cricket?
I can't answer your question, but I can let tell you that Craig Overton just dropped a simple chance to catch his twin brother at first slip. And I don't know how often that's happened, either.

Nor do I know how often two batsmen have been dismissed for 99 in the same innings; Jacks and Latham both falling a run short.

Isn't Pope injured?
For once the cricketer posts an article not behind a paywall.

Aye but he's still in their hundred squad as a marquee England player. Each side get a couple of them.

Stokes and Wood won't play a part in the Hundred but listed as absentees for Durham.

Everywhere but Scarbados ended prematurely thanks to rain.

Durham batting well yet again 77/1 from 19.4. Trail by 263.

Lees gets to his 50 with a 6 back over the bowlers head.
