where are those grapes again?Kent said:After watching the Natwest Series, it almost sickens me that England and the West Indies now have a 2 in 3 chance of winning a major piece of silverware!
I'm starting to see why baseball decides its prestigious titles over at least 160 games, rather than 3 and a half....
Don't worry - they're on order to arrive just in time for when the English dream comes crashing down after Ashes '05.Scaly piscine said:where are those grapes again?

Personally, I've only seen one person in these parts describe Ponting as a "great" captain, although maybe I've just not seen the rest. I think he's competent in his field settings, but I don't think he handles his bowlers terrifically well. On the other hand, I thought Vaughan handled his bowlers very capably tonight.maxpower said:good victory for ENG, congrats. A lot of ppl have said the ponting is a "great" captain, and I understand this is just one loss, but how good was the captaining from ponting while AUS was bowling and on backfoot, anything creative ? any conviction ? Again its only one loss but AUS should not have raised the standards that high and expect me not to complain

They have 'World' titles - only they don't let anyone else play - not even the Japanese and Cubans (especially the Cubans who are as good, if not better than the US on occcasion) just in case.Scaly piscine said:where are those grapes again?
Also baseball doesn't have prestigious titles, they're just club titles with over-the-top names.
its called winning the games that count...get over itKent said:After watching the Natwest Series, it almost sickens me that England and the West Indies now have a 2 in 3 chance of winning a major piece of silverware!

Forty quid a ticket - and on a weekday too.biased indian said:Ricky ponting has lost in one of his missions of winning the ICC trophy
hope he loose on the next one also
one disappionting fact for me today was the crowd at the ground. a stadium which was full of noise when Ind and Pak where playing was half empty when the Aus and Eng were playing
Come on, Eddie. Pakistan's superior talents (and the fact they were the last to win anything significant) justifies me knocking the odds down at least 8%!luckyeddie said:Kent's also not very good at maths.
Why a 2 in 3 chance?
All things being equal (and there is, frankly, little difference between the standard of the 3 teams remaining), England now have a 50% chance of winning the whole thing. Both Pakistan and the West Indies have a 50% chance each of making it to the final.
That's (0.5 + (0.5 * 0.5)) in 1, or 75%

I don't like the taste of alcohol. It's often argued amongst my friends that I'm the most out of place New Zealander in the world.luckyeddie said:Bob, have a beer.

Come now. NZ is pretty good at being at the bottom, mind you. We spent enough time there to build a city!luckyeddie said:It's possible that you just haven't had much practice in being at the bottom of the pile over the last few years (which, God only knows, we have), but looking back on the test series between our two countries this summer and the standard of some of the 'up-and-coming' Kiwis, I'm sure you'll have plenty of opportunity to get used to it.
Top international level baseball tournaments between various countries are played over 160 games?! Goodness. I thought only domestic teams played tournaments of such length.Kent said:After watching the Natwest Series, it almost sickens me that England and the West Indies now have a 2 in 3 chance of winning a major piece of silverware!

Kumeu! Man, I used to live not far from there. Good times. Although Kumeu wines weren't as nice as those in Henderson, from memory. Not that I'd know, I just got forced into a study of Waitakere Wine in 5th form Geography.luckyeddie said:So right - Kumeu (SP?) River - wonderful.
Very. Now you've had your 'woo-hoo' - let's go back to being all reserved and stiff-upper-lipped.Tom Halsey said:England comprehensively thrash Australia. How nice does that sound?
