England calls off tour....

biased indian

International Coach
On the TV here in Aust. conflicting reports, some say they have already left India. Others that they are going to still play the Tests
think they are still in Bhuwaneshwar..since there is 14 days to the scheduled test dates ..they could be leaving india today and may be coming back ....

Good decision, I'm sure they could have been waiting for a chance like this or of any kind, to bunk the series after their poor performance, they have nothing to play in the series now, so they decided to call it off the series. better luck next time England..
well last time eng toured they were whitewashed 0-7 so i think they wanted to improve on their previous performance so they cancelled when its 0-5  hahaha

Not Terrible
I think in light of the tragedy laughing at the idea that this relieves the English team someway is pretty ****ty. Cricket is just a game and I'm sure the England players are pretty distraught about these circumstances occurring while they were touring.

They weren't actually, 1 game was rained-off and England somehow fluked a victory in another, so it was 5-1.

Anyway, I was thinking something like this was pretty probable after hearing of the attacks. It's a real shame when cricket - like anything - has to suffer through terrorist activities as that's exactly the aim of the damn thing, but obviously if you've the choice between unsafe and safer, you'll take the latter and quite rightly so.

Wonder what will happen though, there seems no certainty over whether the last 2 ODIs are called-off, postponed, the Tests will go ahead or won't, etc. etc. One thing's for sure, England's schedule this winter could've done without disruption. Oh well.

Good decision. From a cricketing point of view it's a shame, but cricket just does not matter in times like these.

As I said in another thread, some seriously poor posting from Uag over the last 12 hours. Bizarre stuff. Drunk maybe?

Massive ramifications for the future of cricket.. If India wants to succeed as the new powerhouse of the game, then it can in no way have security concerns like this.. Interesting although tragic times.

No country would want to be in such a situation, but not everything is under their control specially when it comes to terrorism. India like every country would want other countries to tour but sadly the current situation especially in the sub-continent is far from ideal and no matter how much security they have or provide it still wont be 100% safe.

Nowhere will ever come close to 100% safe, really. That's the sad reality of life on Earth and always has been. Safety is just not an option for life.

yeah i agree on that. I was just saying countries like india and pakistan have become an easy target of terrorism specially pakistan.

Everyone is calling this a consistent decision, but haven't terrorist attacks occured in London during an Ashes tour?

they've had similar situation like pak for a long time yet players have toured india so i think it wont make any difference to indian cricket since cricket depends on bcci

As being an expert on terrorism and its causes i would say theres a difference between both countries since UK took control on terrorist activities after that incident. In india there have been various bomb blasts recently in nearly all parts of the country and this incident being another one.

Yeah an escalation as opposed to isolated event.

Soon there will be no countries left to tour

yes i know cricket is 'just a game' but just a game is big bloody business and big bloody money, they get paid a lot to go to all sorts of weird countries and accept their cultures and the fact that there may be some political unrest.

and like someone previously said, there were terrorist threats during the last australian tour of england, like to see that called off

of course it is a terrible event that has happened, i'm not downplaying that, but at what point do we say 'either you want work in these countries or don't you?' and then just play everything in some neutral venue with no political unrest, which at the moment, could be pretty much nowhere, maybe the west indies or new zealand

Yeah it's worrying.. We've essentially got two of crickets major players totally unavailable to host tours now.. Three if you count what has gone on in Zimbabwe.. Could this give even more credence to a split in world cricket?
