England calls off tour....

Possibly the worst post of all time.. Last I heard there were over 1 teams involved in an ashes series
Eh? England have cancelled 2 ODIs in (and are possibly going home from) India. They can't, however, go home from England.

Soon there will be no countries left to tour

yes i know cricket is 'just a game' but just a game is big bloody business and big bloody money, they get paid a lot to go to all sorts of weird countries and accept their cultures and the fact that there may be some political unrest.

and like someone previously said, there were terrorist threats during the last australian tour of england, like to see that called off

of course it is a terrible event that has happened, i'm not downplaying that, but at what point do we say 'either you want work in these countries or don't you?' and then just play everything in some neutral venue with no political unrest, which at the moment, could be pretty much nowhere, maybe the west indies or new zealand
Since when has there been no unrest in places like Kingston? UIMM, it's one of the most crime-riddled cities in The World.

Even though this is a valid excuse but I think there might be some relief in the English camp after the pasting they were getting and would get in the future games.
Yeah, 7-0 seems more dreadful than whats going on in India ATM and personal safety  .

Were the 7th July bombings not halfway through a bunch of Australian cricketers staying in the same city during the Ashes? Not trying to condemn anyone for staying or going, as it's such a tough issue, but I still don't think there is a consistency regarding team's actions..

Can't see how Australia's decision in 2005 has anything to do with England's here TBH.

Mind, it should be remembered that Jason Gillespie talked of the Australians considering going home if there were any more attacks shortly after 7th July.

And I'm pretty sure the attacks occurred just before the Australians arrived, not during their stay, in London. They were due to play 2 ODIs, at Lord's and The Oval, there, having played at Headingley the day before.

And if that is the criteria.....England is not in Mumabi and are in far more distance than australia was on that day when bombs went on in london

Everyone is calling this a consistent decision, but haven't terrorist attacks occured in London during an Ashes tour?
Goughy said:
Ignoring the most recent, by my count there have been 128 terrorist acts in India that involved a minimum of one death since the begining of 2006.

That is roughly 1 a week. I know its a big country, but that shocked me.

By comparisson there were 105 in Pakistan for the same period (though given population size differences the number for Pakistan is far larger).

(There is a small chance of reports being duplicated in the source evidence)

In comparison, the UK has had 0 and the USA has had 1 (an incident Im suprised Id never heard of)
Think your comparison falls pretty flat in light of Goughy's research (taken from a thread in OT).

Whatever it takes!!!
totally understandable decision. Not sure about the consistency aspect of it, but completely understandable. These guys need to be safe.. The cricket can be played out later.

Such a shame to miss out on international cricket because of terrorist idiots though. :(

I wouldn't say that. The key difference between 7/7 and these attacks is that the gunmen appear to be targeting foreign nationals, specifically British and Americans while the July bombings were indiscriminate.

Massive ramifications for the future of cricket.. If India wants to succeed as the new powerhouse of the game, then it can in no way have security concerns like this.. Interesting although tragic times.
Piss poor effort that. Every country wants to be terror free, and it is not just for becoming cricketing superpower, but to give it to her citizens a secure life.

Tests to go ahead as planned (Take that you terrorist mother****ers)

I hope everything is normalised asap, even though the loss of dear ones are irreplaceable. Brave Mumbai has come out it in the past, and hope this time also they do it.

And bravo, ECB, for saying OK to tests. No one really cares abt ODIs.
I would not read anything into it until we hear something from the ECB... it may be brinkmanship from Modi at the moment. As far as I've heard, the ECB are still looking into everything in terms of plans and security and so on. I'd be surprised if there's a decision so soon.

That said, I very much hope there is a solution that everyone is happy and feels safe with.

Wishful thinking IMO.. Wouldn't believe that until you see the umpires walking onto the pitch

No doubt it is wishful thinking. What else can we do atm? Hopefully this thing dies out, and English players come in a month. Daymn, look so bleak, them touring amidst all this stuff.
