Have to say I disagree with that - it looked earlier in his career that he could become the new Wright, but now he's looking more like the new Heskey IMO. Doesn't have the scorer's instinct, doesn't bring others into play well enough, doesn't have the self-belief to make it at the top level. He may yet prove me wrong, but I have a feeling that although he may win one or two England caps, he will never fulfil his early promise.
Which is exactly the opposite of the way I feel about Darren Bent - clearly confident, clearly knows where the goal is, strong, very quick and his movement so far has been impeccable in a lone striking role. I certainly would have picked him ahead of Crouch for yesterday's game, and I would have thrown him on against NI too, just to see if he could make a difference. He would certainly add more to the team than Crouch, or Defoe - Defoe is only good for replacing Owen in case of injury.
