He has played now though, hasn't he?
Yes he has and was promply sent off and gave away an own goal. My post was light hearted though.

He's made a major effort to fit in with learning the language etc. - apparantly lot more of an effort than a certain Mr Owen...
See above. And with the language yes you are right, I read on Real Madrid's website and he said he could speak Spanish, and having read the interviews he signed for them he said a few words in Spanish.

5 strikers?

Is that really nessacary considering the formation England seem to be playing (4-5-1 or whatever their normal one is)?

If you take 5, definatly one will not play.

Of course 5 strikers are necessary, they play 4-4-2 now and the odds are they'll need someone to score in the late stages with the way they're playing and you need all the variety you can get to expose whatever weakness the opposition might have. Personally I don't see the point in taking 8 defenders (assuming you can still replace injured players in the squad during the World Cup), there's just no remotely likely set of circumstances where you'd need that many.

well i dont think the Sven is thinking like that so he would take 8 defenders instead of thr 5th striker i reckon.

Joe Cole is he the right man for the Left side?

Well hopefully in 6th months time England are taking a full-strenght sqaud to germany with everyone fit, thus in the final XI everyone's position except Cole on the left-flank, i dunno i think someone like Parker or Downing (mostly) could come in their since everyone is alwys saying that Gerrard & Lampard look too similar & thus we lack a good holding player to complimnet Beckham, Lampard & Gerrard.

So to me a player like Dowing could do that well...

Well no because Sven's clueless, he'd sooner have 3 defenders on the bench so he can go to a 7-3-0 formation when England go 1-0 up after 25 minutes.

Are you sure?
Name one outstanding performance he has delivered for England, Spurs or Newcastle in the last two years. Some would say he isn't there to do the spectacular, which is all well and good - but he is there to play well, and he certainly hasn't done that regularly.

Still not a patch on Johnson though. The very mention of his name makes me boil with anger.

Very true, Jenas has never recoverd the form he showed a few years ago when he first reallt established himself in the newcastle team

Carlton Cole? I wants what you is smoking.....:pimp:

Darren Bent if he carries on current form.
I've been watching the under-21's recently and the guy is quality. Looks Heskey look like a cart horse......... :p . The fact that Mourinho didn't let him go on loan shows how much he rates him.

Don't think you can to be honest.
No, you definitely can't - a rule like that would be open to abuse, and injuries are the reason they allow you 23 instead of 22. They expanded it from 22 to cover a potential injury to a second-choice goalie, as teams didn't want no keeper on the bench in crucial games. 23 is more than enough IMHO.

1. Where does Carson play for again, why would u have him in front of Green?

2. Why pick Bridge when their is Carrager has a reserve left back?

3. Dowing & Parker over Jenas & Murphy?

4. No way hesky or bent would be infront of him surely...
1. Liverpool. Is definitely one for the future and would be good experience for him. Only 18 or 19 i think.

2. Bridge cover for cole. Carragher cover for Neville and/or centre backs if needed.

3. Jenas is overrated, Parker is better than Murphy and should be on the fringe of starting 11 soon. Downing if fit brings something different and is a v good crosser.

Heskey no, if bent scores 30 then he will have a great shout. I just like the look of Cole. Strong, quick, good touch. A slightly bigger version of Ian Wright.

1. Maybe but i reckon Sven will pick Green in front of the youngster

2. Parker may be better than Murphy but Murphy has been in top form of late and if he can maintain it i would have him infront of Parker. Dowing once fit i reckon should be in the starting XI during the WC ahead of Joe Cole.

3. Well probaly only 4 strikers will go so i reckon Crouch will get the final spot

Have to say I disagree with that - it looked earlier in his career that he could become the new Wright, but now he's looking more like the new Heskey IMO. Doesn't have the scorer's instinct, doesn't bring others into play well enough, doesn't have the self-belief to make it at the top level. He may yet prove me wrong, but I have a feeling that although he may win one or two England caps, he will never fulfil his early promise.

Which is exactly the opposite of the way I feel about Darren Bent - clearly confident, clearly knows where the goal is, strong, very quick and his movement so far has been impeccable in a lone striking role. I certainly would have picked him ahead of Crouch for yesterday's game, and I would have thrown him on against NI too, just to see if he could make a difference. He would certainly add more to the team than Crouch, or Defoe - Defoe is only good for replacing Owen in case of injury.

Fair enough but where have you been watching Cole?? I think given the under 21 games are his only competitive footie games that he is performing well. A run would see a lot of heads turn.

for me this would be England's best full strenght XI for next year once everyone is fit

NEVILLE------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------COLE

---------------------------------------------------DOWNING----------------------------------------------------------------

BECKHAM--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------GERRARD

Joe Cole has been good but somehow i feel we need a a good -holding player in mid-field to compliment Beckham, Gerrard & Lampard so i reckon once dowing recovers soon & does well at middlesborough i would have in their....

Hmmm have you ever seen Downing play?!?!? He is a left winger who is quick and crosses well - i.e not a holding midfielder. I would have Scott Parker in the holding role if anyone.

yea i know if u look back in the thread my 2 options for the position were Downing & Parker the reason i went for Stew is because of his speed & aslo because i dont like the idea of Gerrard playing in front of the 2 centre-backs.....
