I see that Michael Gough has "stepped down" as a member of the elite umpires panel.

I suspect that may have something to do with his off field events last year.
Has to be for personal reasons rather than cricketing, he’s easily the best umpire in the world right now but I can’t imagine the life of an elite umpire is particularly conducive to family life - probably even worse than players, in my view.

A shame if that's true, he has a lot to offer in the red ball game
I agree, but it looks very much like Will Rhodes will be the genuine all-rounder for us in red ball cricket this season so maybe it limits BDL’s options. Be interested to know if it’s a club decision from a cost-cutting perspective too.

Bit of a change of tact, but I’ve been listening to Talksport’s recent podcast, which serves in their words atleast as a bit of a preview to the county season - although they don’t spend much time discussing the 18 counties, some of whom don’t even get a mention.

I suspect they (and others) will do a more in depth preview some time over the next week, BUT the main point really is just to say that it’s a shame all of our talk is confined to just the one thread really, one of the best things about the historical home was that we could discuss topics individually on their own merits and now that excitement is starting to grow I’d quite liked to have been able to have a deep dive into the coming season.

I'm still on the fence with the Rhodes signing, he hasn't bowled that much in red ball cricket over the last couple of years plus he's a number 3 which seems to be Gay's position in the side.

I would rather have stuck with De Leede in all 3 formats, although it may be De Leede's choice to go down the white ball only route and get some gigs in a few T20 leagues around the world.

Students declare on 327-9, we’re 38-1 overnight.

Looking at the highlights, specifically those players who were clean bowled - it seems there was a bit of variable bounce out there all day.

Not sure on that one, but he split his time last season playing for Warwickshire and Leicestershire 2’s.
Also played for South North alongside
Will Alexander .Aussie
Tim Rogers who plays in the Oz Slap.
n Tickle and Sheffield Shield was the recognised pro

Mitch Killeen continued his preseason good form by taking 5 wickets which could get him a place on the bus to Nottingham next week. Steady and consistent line and length.
Ben Raine eased his way back in his normal reliable way knowing full well he is vital with the new ball considering the early injury list. Stanley Mac and new boy Will Alexander bowled decent spells without getting any lift and bounce which was expected on an early season slow wicket .Parky and the Drizzler didn't get any turn whilst Akkers was ring rusty
Credit to the Uni team who stuck to the task in hand and made 327/9
Interesting to see Badger opening with Ben Mack considering his new role at the club .My initial thoughts were maybe open with Clarky for a chance to put himself in the red ball frame . Fair play to Badger who played a few fluent shots towards the end of play ,Will he put the cat amongst the pigeons if he goes big tomorrow 🤔 Felt Ben Mack got a low one to be bowled for 2 . Not sure about the non-appearance of Haydn Mustard and Dan Hogg . Hopefully not injury related and more a case of international training camps . All in all a canny day with a touch of catching the sun
