Fair enough too. With so much competition for bowling spots, can't realy see how they can justify paying him money when he only plays one game a season.

Also of interest is that Hauritz is staying. After talking to Watson he decided that he wanted to stay in the best city in Australia.

OK, so the Sri Lankan thrashing counts for something but not for much. I still think that the Aussie's are going to get overtaken and about time too. They have their head in the coulds and aren't shy to let anyone know of their records as top sportsmen but really, it's about time someone knocked them off their perch and my bet is it's going to be soon.

What are you talking about? To say a team 'has their head in the clouds' when theyve been winning pretty well for the last year is a bit rich.

South australia has given jack smith a contract,he played for canberra comets and was impressive for the prime ministers xl against nz so much so chris cairns tried to recuit him for nz domestic cricket. He had a contract 2 years ago but the redbacks cut him, good to see the redbacks give him another go apparently he had a good grade season in sa.look forward to see him having a good season with the redbacks next season, considering the lack of talent in the redbacks batting i am sure we will see him play sometime early next year,i expect shane deitz to have another ordinary start.Sad the redbcks didn't sign a wicket keeper who could bat this time.

That's what you get when you spend your winters batting on a road in the Yorks Prem - bit of a culture shock back into the Pura Cup.

I believe Jack Smith is turning 27 or 28 this year?

He is certainly getting on a bit in that regard.

Word on the street is that Streak has been offered good money to come as the states top import. A full strength side wouldn't be the worst:

Jaques
Mail
Katich (c)
Clarke
Thornely
Haddin
Streak
Nicholson
Lee
MacGill
McGrath.

Leaving McGrath, Lee, Clarke and Katich as international players - Clarke and Lee might even end up in ODI's only, and Katich maybe just Tests, so it wouldn't be the worst squad.

The problem is, that while in anyones eyes thats a strong starting XI, the lack of depth is a concern. Stuart Clark and Nathan Bracken provide capable cover in the pace department and Aaron O'Brien will have a bigger role this summer, probably as a batting all-rounder. Ed Cowan is being looked at for a batting place while I've heard that young St George all-rounder Moises Henriques has been offered a rookie contract. If Haddin falls injured - which he more often than not does once or twice a summer - the comfort of Nathan Pilon is gone because he is now in Victoria. So hence, if my memory serves me correctly, Penrtih's Daniel Smith is the reserve keeper.

Well, IMO McGrath will be lucky to see the end of the summer in Australian colours, or Australian whites.

Any team that has Thornely in their top XI is in big trouble.

Apart from him it isn't a bad side.

However if you want to look at an awesome full strength side check this one out:

M. Hayden
J. Maher (c)
M. Love
A. Symonds
S. Watson
C. Perren
W. Secombe
A. Bichel
N. Hauritz
A. Noffke
M. Kasprowicz

Not to mention the back up player - Phillipson (century on debut), Nye (century on debut), Kruger (back from injury), Hartley (Australia's next wicketkeeper), Mackenzie (best bowling action in Australia), C Simpson (Ganguly's new friend), S. Brant (over-rated, but still better than Brad Williams), then of course there's Mitchell Johnson who isn't even in the main squad.

I think cowan needs to prove himself in the acb cup first, give first shot to mathew mott and corey richards, the blues need some experienced batsmen.

what on earth could you have against thornley, hes an excellent fielder, solid batsman and handy bowler - and can bat anywhere in the top order

Let me expand on a quote from the one and only Shane Warne:

"Can't bowl, can't bat!"

Or, in other words, a "bits and pieces" player...

So what? Greg Chappel tipped Andy Symonds to make the 1996 WC, and he wasn't within Cooee of the side. Please...any young player from N.S.W. who makes it into double figures more than once in a season or takes a wicket in two innings is touted as the next Don Bradman or Dennis Lillee.

We are certainly looking good. My only question is will we ever see this side on the park together.
