also interesting: how spread out the top knocks are. Even Bradman only has five in the top 100 (though DoG might not have put all his innings through the woodchipper?) (and yet that's still an outlier cos I think G Chappell is next with three?)Difference between 1-2 being almost identical to 2-8 is nuts
Generally acclaimed as his greatest innings and one of the best played in the subcontinent in the last few decades. Murali and Mendis were unplayable.I hardly see anyone talk about that Sehwag 201*. I obviously didn't see it but just statistically it's a truly remarkable innings, out of 329 with only two other batsmen in double figures.
74 different batsmen for 100 innings. Bradman has 5 as you say then Greenidge is next up with 4. Then Chappell, Lara and Root have 3 each.also interesting: how spread out the top knocks are. 13.67. Sri Lanka's bowling attack was only rated at 327. This will probably increase in the future as the bowlers will improve their career-best ratings.Just wondering where you'd rank Abdullah Shafique's 160 not out for Pakistan in SL last month.
It gets a rating of 14.37.Why does Astle's 222 miss the top 100? I know it was in a loss and perhaps it was an average England attack, but still
13.11. Not too shabby.for fun, Zak Crawley's 267 please?
Home or away has no bearing on the ratings of bowlers.
6 VVS Laxman 281 Australia 608 Kolkata 2001 19.38
Opposition rating here seems low to me, surely Australia of that time was a seriously good team. Is it because of them playing away?
End of match rating | Career peak rating | Adjusted rating | |
GD McGrath | 906 | 914 | 909 |
MS Kasprowicz | 326 | 611 | 421 |
SK Warne | 623 | 905 | 717 |
JN Gillespie | 696 | 812 | 735 |
ME Waugh | 240 | 295 | 258 |
Average rating of all bowlers: | 608 |
iirc in his last list it was Kallis, Waugh and Border with more players between Kallis and Waugh than Waugh and Border, could be misremembering though.Starting a **** storm... but @Days of Grace can we please get S.Waugh, Borders and Kallis highest rating?
Must be misremembering, Kallis never played any significant innings while Border and Waugh played many great innings...iirc in his last list it was Kallis, Waugh and Border with more players between Kallis and Waugh than Waugh and Border, could be misremembering though.
Is there a way of doing it proportionally?Home or away has no bearing on the ratings of bowlers.
Here is the attack that VVS Laxman faced with the ratings of each bowler at the end of the match and their career peak rating. The weightage is 2:1 (rating at the end of the match : career peak). Keep in mind that I only rate bowlers who bowled at least 10% of the team's total overs.

Mark Waugh drags the rating down from 696 to 608 because he bowled 18 overs out of the total of 178, which is above 10%.
Do you mean by percentage of overs bowled? Should I include all bowlers in the innings? If I did that would probably make it worse for Laxman, since Australia used 9 bowlers in total. Is there a way of doing it proportionally?
People do talk about. Nobody talks about Anwar's 188* though which is a similar knock.I hardly see anyone talk about that Sehwag 201*. I obviously didn't see it but just statistically it's a truly remarkable innings, out of 329 with only two other batsmen in double figures.
