Sounds like E has a monopoly on all the talent... yes, 10 people left, but who's to say that they were necessarily good? Seems way too one-sided. They could get 5 super players with those 5 picks.

Hypothetical situation...
Team A: 1 person chooses to leave.
Teams B, C and D: 5 people choose to leave.
Team E: 10 people choose to leave.

How does the draft work in this kind of situation?
Probably something like that:
1. E
2. B
3. C
4. D
5. A
6. E
7. E
8. D
9. C
10. E
11. E

and so on...

I was more thinking ABCDEBCDEBCDEBCDEBCDEEEEEE, since the team which has most players wanting to leave obviously isn't doing something right and shouldn't be given any advantage. It would give Team E a good reason to rethink how they go about things if they want to actually keep their players. :p

It should work just like the AFL draft works... The lower you finish the better (first round picks) you get. I highly doubt that 10 or even 5 players will leave one team so i see it highly doubtful that the situation described above would happen.

So capping off... All new sign ups from in between seasons and any player at all (veterans rookies) that played the previous season that want to leave there club can do so by entering into the draft.

P.S A trade period will happen b4 the draft just like in the afl...

lol any thoughts

So with 5 teams, it'd go

5th team: 1,3,8,13
4th Team:2,4,9,14
3rd Team:5,10,15,18
2nd Team:6,11,16,19
1st Team:7,12,17,20

Assuming there's 20 selections in the draft

??

There are a bunch of teams called Colts that have been around for a long time in their respective sports. I don't know of any team called the "Yellows" despite there being a lot of "Reds" and "Blues" - this is mainly because Yellow is another word for 'Cowardly' and I again say that I'd rather not be labelled CW Yellow.
CW Mauve perhaps?

Same reason there isn't a white-uniformed ODI team already, but there is a black one. Whites are reserved for tests and FC matches.

Err.. it would go..

5th team: 1,6,11,16
4th Team:2,7,12,17
3rd Team:3,8,13,18
2nd Team:4,9,14,19
1st Team:5,10,15,20.

If you're trying to include priority picks, they still don't apply..

Using that format, I'd imagine this would be a bit more on the fair side:

5th team: 1,10,11,20
4th Team:2,9,12,19
3rd Team:3,8,13,18
2nd Team:4,7,14,17
1st Team:5,6,15,16.

And assuming the same numbers leave each team, which is IMO the major reason why drafting won't work in this sort of game.

Yeah, Towns... 8-)

Basically the AFL draft picks are sorted out by who finished lower. The last placed team would get pick 1 and 6, the fourth placed would get 2 and 7..etc

Where has it been shown that an AFL-style draft wouldn't work? Basically it's helping the bottom team get better players and thus a better team. Towns came up with a good system:

5th team: 1,10,11,20
4th Team:2,9,12,19
3rd Team:3,8,13,18
2nd Team:4,7,14,17
1st Team:5,6,15,16.

Whilst it's giving the bottom placed team the best pick, it's also giving the 1st team the 5th and 6th best players in the draft pool. It's pretty fair, and although it would definitely require alot of thought and tweaking to get it right, it could work.

Also - the players in the draft. New sign ups, and rookies (defined by having played under 10 games FC & OD combined and having only signed up the previous season)? Maybe people who want to leave should request to be traded rather than go to the draft.

The AFL one doesn't work cus there is a different number of players leaving each club, unlike AFL where is is the same amount.
