CW Blue v CW Red
at the CW Oval

A flat batting wicket made for thrilling cricket, as Cricket Web Red scored enough of their 303/7 to defend against Blue's 285/8. James Stedman score a maiden OD hundred for his team, whilst partnering Ian Markus for 189 runs for the second wicket. Toward the end, Dauth, Moerk and Ghansar got into the big-hitting act to lift the total over 300.

Blue tried to begin the chase positively, but the approach accounted for Camps, knocked over for 22. Cloete and de Silva rebuilt somewhat, then the former was run out. Fitzsimmons didn't last long before being trapped in front by Ghansar. Wilshere played a comfortable innings, but was caught hooking just when he looked set.

In his first OD game for a while, Cribb made a good return and played a adrenaline-boosting half-century to complement de Silva's. Jellett too was spirited and it appeared Blue would have a slim shot at victory. The batting simply did not fire enough at the very end though, and Red took a good win.

CW Black v CW Green
at the CWBCC Stadium

A tight run chase was not to be, as the Black middle order fell away to dismiss and victory chances at the very end. Green batted first and once again Malone and Goff scored hundreds. At 224/1 after 40 overs, things looked set for a huge total. However, Broadbent and Wilson returned well to keep the batsmen in check.

Chasing 279 for victory, Loc was out early and the score was 38/1. Chaulk continued his spectacular form though, and unfortunately just fell short of a hundred. He put on 98 runs with Butler for the second wicket, and Butler got to a very good 50. When he was out, Kearsley joined Chaulk to add a further 97 runs and get his own half-century.

When the partnership was broken, things went downhill. Just 11 runs were added as 4 wickets tumbled and the recovery was never sufficient. Malone claimed 4 wickets amidst the collapse to seal a Man of the Match award.

A close-run loss and a good win whilst I've been away, Reds. Better, but still room for improvement.

Congrats to mr. Stedman, aswell

Top stuff from Malone :) a huyndred and 4 wickets, very impressive.

Goff's Hundred was also full class, pretty good pace to striking at just under 96.

i believe that gives us a little break on top of the table again, lets not let it slip.

Good to get off with another win before I go off. We really need to concentrate on OD now - we've got a big chance to get to the final, and I really think we can do it, if everyone pulls together :)

great win guys... the batting was simply sensational. Great to see Stedman score some runs and really find his feet in the Red team... Marcs wickets with the ball were also very crucial indeed.

on a personal note the purple patch continues with another 83. Just a question Liam what's the highest second wicket partnership in dev league cricket?

Congratulations on your maiden OD century! Well deserved, you're probably ahead of me in runs scored now? Well done anyway.

Good work by Ian as well.. this is our late charge into the finals :D

And of course, Marc made up for his batting with his bowling, getting crucial wickets.

CW Black v CW Green
at the CWBCC Stadium

In their crucial match at the CWBCC Stadium, the teams CW Green and CW Black showed just how close they really are, as the home side squeezed home by a deceiving margin of 4 wickets. It took a scintillating captain's knock from Andrew Garven to lift Green from despair at 31/4 to their victory target of 149.

Garven was out with just 5 runs needed, but he had already done sufficient damage, receiving notable support from young Nicholas Rose batting down the order. Black batted first in perfect batting conditions, yet struggled against Bryce Cunningham, on fire. The pacer ripped through the Black lineup to take 6 wickets and inspire a score of 116 all out.

Yet the game was far from over. Indeed, the Black bowlers got their team back into the game in a flash. Chris Broadbent and Callum Thompson shared 6 wickets in the innings and Green was struggling at 85/5 at one point. However, the determination of Anthony Lezama came up short of a second FC hundred, but helped resurrect the innings. Also making positive contributions were Rose and Weber in 249 all out.

Trailing by 133 runs, the Blacks were cautious the second time around. Loc and Kearsley got good starts but did not carry on, and it was 123/2 when the latter departed. Simon Jones stuck about though. With much to live up to, even at this late stage of the season, Jones buckled down for a 256-ball innings, showing true grit and determination. He and Blackman looked like turning the game the way of Black when an uncanny move by Garven paid off.

Rather than take the new ball straight away, Garven gave himself a second over against the set Jones. To his utmost delight, he dismissed him caught at midon, then saw Weber get Blackman in the following over. Dubb-Lynch and Hing made useful contributions from there in, but Black could only manage 281. The lead of 148 was an admirable effort, but not enough.

...and we're tied!

Cricket Web Black 1st Innings 116 all out
Cricket Web Green 1st Innings 249 all out
Cricket Web Black 2nd Innings 281 all out
Cricket Web Green 2nd Innings 152 for 6
Cricket Web Green won by 4 wkts.

Man of the Match: BC Cunningham

CW Blue v CW Red
at the CW Oval

Cricket Web Blue made a huge stride in its race to avoid a last place finish with a big win over Red at the Oval. The game was closely matched for the most part, but one man separated the two teams in the end. Having been dropped for several games, Wilshere made his way back into the FC team and definitely held his opportunity. The rookie scored two unbeaten half-centuries, denied a hundred in the second innings by Liam Camps' declaration.

Cloete scored 94 in the Blue first innings, but it was Wilshere's knock that held the team together down the stretch, as the Red seamers bowled well enough to keep the batsmen in constant trouble. Blue settled for 264 all out and took to the field.

The Reds began well with a partnership of 60, before Liam Camps dismissed Ghansar for the initial breakthrough. Ian Markus flattered to deceive with some comfortable strokeplay, but was LBW to a great delivery from Fuller. Rob Dauth's middle order half-century held the innings together, but he met the most support down the stretch from Dave Watt and Nick Borcich, the only batsmen to reach double figures after him.

All the Blue bowlers contributed, and Red was limited to 251 all out. A slim lead in their pocket, Blue was cautious the second time around. Camps and Fitzsimmons saw off the new ball, but did little else. Cloete looked tremendous in his stay at the crease, but was caught close in against a Bennett googly.

Once again the pressure fell on Wilshere. Watt was working up good pace and continuing his good form by keeping the batsmen jumping, but the Blues soldiered on. Jellett, Fuller and Popat played very important innings down the lineup (especially Popat, who added 89 with Wilshere). Straddling the thin line between positive play and caution once more, Camps called the innings closed with a lead of 343 and 77 overs left on a worn pitch.

The equation proved more than sufficient for Blue, and Whelan and Maddocks were the only Red batsmen to advance their scores past 20. Once again the Blue seamers shared the wickets around nicely of 160 all out.

Cricket Web Blue 1st Innings 264 all out
Cricket Web Red 1st Innings 251 all out
Cricket Web Blue 2nd Innings 330 for 8 dec.
Cricket Web Red 2nd Innings 160 all out
Cricket Web Blue won by 183 runs.

Man of Match: BL Wilshere

Well, guys, that was a gutsy performance considering we were without our 3 star batsmen - facing a blue that had only lost 2 player (Just kidding! :p).

Great bowling by Dave in the second innings. That Chairman's XI really killed us..

Robbins and Kearsley down

Marc Robbins (CW Red) will miss the next two games of the season (following today's game against SA) with the flu. The Red captain is suffering from flu-like symptoms and is currently bed-riddin. He will, however, be fit in time for the first Test match, should he be selected.

David Kearsley (CW Black) suffered a mild concussion in a brawl with an anonymous team mate in Cricket Web Black's dressing during the defeat at the hands of Cricket Web Green. Kearsley will miss 2 games.
