Cricket Web Red v Cricket Web Green at Cairns
Tale of the pitch: Even surface with even bounce. The ball coming onto the bat nicely but some swing for the bowlers.
CRICKET WEB RED 200/9 50.0 overs
CRICKET WEB GREEN 201/8 43.2 overs
Cricket Web Green won by 2 wickets
Man of the match: Rob Timewell
The Reds won the toss and elected to bat first on a pitch that had something for both batsmen and bowlers. Mookerjee started positively and drove Timwell off the back foot for a boundary and then pulled him for a massive six. Timewell then had his revenge by having him caught at midon, playing too early at a full delivery. When the same bowler trapped Marc71178 in front a bit later, he probably realized it would be his day.
Nathan Hoy had Bugssy brilliantly held by Blewy in the covers for his first career OD wicket and Age master continued to shuffle his bowlers around with regularity. Timewell accounted for the dangerous Markus and Vimes misjudged a Darkness delivery and was LBW attempting to cut. Zaid Ghansar then put his head down and batted with great courage and patience. His unbeaten half-century was relatively slow but extremely crucial. He found solid partners in Imran Khan Jr. and Mr Ponting and then Timwell returned to wrap up the tail and his maiden 5-wicket haul in any form of cricket.
Set to chase just 201 runs, the new Greens opening pair of Loony Bob and Biased Indian started with calm assurance and their confidence blossomed with glorious offside play, especially off the front foot. They added 62 for the first wicket, that of Loony Bob, chipping Zebra second ball straight to midon. Cloete replaced him and was troubled by Zebra immediately. His partner, Indian lofted Zebra dead straight for a good-looking six, but was caught in two minds with the next ball, a full toss that he hit straight to midwicket. Cloete continued to struggle against the spin of Zebra but relished the entry of Mookerjee into the attack and uppercut a wide ball over the ropes at third man. The return of Ponting at the other end proved too much though and saw Cloete attempting the same shot again, this time just finding Ian Markus at slip.
Blewy was playing responsibly at the crease but could not find a partner in Age Master, who was bowled around his legs by Zebra. The left-arm spinner ended his first spell at 4-0-14-3 and Marc decided to bring back his strike bowlers Dave and Imran Khan Jr. The two kept the batsmen quiet for a while, but it was the return of A Massive Zebra that got the next break, albeit a lucky one against Dewan. Ponting enticed Blewy to pull to Bugssy and had the crucial wicket down - 164/6 and the Reds still in it. The pressure piled onto the young Nathan Hoy and the veteran Lord of Darkness and surprisingly it was the latter who cracked first, admittedly bowled by a peach of a delivery from Dave. Hoy continued to exhibit tight defence and rotate the strike, but Zebra would not be denied and found the leading edge of Hoy's bat for a return catch and his 5th wicket - his 3rd such achievement in only his 21st OD match.
Now at 196/8, 5 runs were needed to win with 2 wickets in hand and young Delkap on strike. The first ball he saw beat him by a mile but he survived. Rose pushed for a couple of runs into the outfield and then took a single to hand the strike back to Delkap against Imran Khan Jr. He was beaten one ball and left the other. Aware of the tenseness of the situation Rose tried to farm the strike and faced up to Zebra with the scores level after 43 overs. The first ball was padded away as it pitched outside legstump and Marc piled on more pressure by placing a barrage of close-in fielders. Zebra bowled and Rose pushed forward, got an inside edge and was dropped by Bugssy at slip. The batsmen scrambled through for the winning run.

Australia A v Cricket Web Black at the SCG
Tale of the pitch: Slowish surface. Hard to time the ball and a bit of spin for the bowlers.
AUSTRALIA 'A' 218/9 50.0 overs
CW BLACK 177/9 50.0 overs
Australia 'A' won by 41 runs
Man of the match: Michael Clarke
High on confidence due to the critical acclaim of his captaincy, Neil Pickup led his team onto his field in front of a sold out home crowd. He lost the toss and was told that he would bat first on a pitch that would be more and more difficult to score on as the day went on. The Black bowlers bowled well early and built up pressure so that Maher tried to scramble a legbye and was run out by an alert Ash Chaulk.
Buoyed by the early breakthrough, Reddy delivered a perfect outseamer to Michael Clarke first up. He edged the ball to Jagaways at slip and, after juggling it twice, he put it down. That miss proved key. Mike Hussey stuck around and found his timing to play a lovely half-century, but his dismissal to Buts was quickly followed by his brother's, run out comfortably by debutant Superkingdave. In the next over Clarke (on 32) looked to paddle Buts away and lobbed the simplest of catches to short fine leg where Pickup promptly set it down. Superkingdave returned to the attack after a decent first spell of 3-0-15-0, and got Blewett to drag on immediately - his first wicket for CW.
The next over began with Watson hit on the toe by a straight Broadbent offering and out LBW - 164/5. Clarke later pulled Broadbent for a big six to get to a run-a-ball 50 but played on the ball after. Pickup returned in tandem with Superkingdave and the two made scoring extremely difficult for the Aussies. Pickup had bowled an expensive 3-0-26-0 initially, but started his second stint with a maiden and never looked back. Ultimately the pressure helped Reddy to 2 wickets due frustrated shots and Australia A finished at 218/9.
A modest total in sight, the Black batsmen soon realized it would be a tought ask all the same. Rich_2001 attempted to flick Tait away and was instead caught at 3rd slip without scoring. Watson came on for an over to allow Bichel and Tait to switch ends, but would breakthrough as Jagaways drove loosely to Symonds at cover - 11/2. Ash Chaulk and Eclipse (dropped by Hauritz on 2) consolidated somewhat and then both departed in a miniature collapse of 3 for 9 - 40/5. Another recovery effort was staged by BK Smith and Superkingdave and when the former was wonderfully snatched by Clarke off David Hussey, the score read 97/6 with the Blacks still in with a slim chance.
That chance deppreciated greatly though, when Tait snuck a quick length ball past the bat of Superkingdave and got him in front - 108/7. Blaster mistimed Clarke to Blewett at short extra cover and Pickup came to the crease with 95 still needed from 83 balls. The Blacks never got up to the RRR but Pickup did show great spirit in supporting and encouraging his fellow bowler Vishnu Reddy. The result was a 47-run partnership for the 9th wicket (a new CW record) and a career-best for the Black skipper, in a losing effort however.

England A v Cricket Web Blue at PDV Dome
Tale of the pitch: A good batting pitch where runs should flow throughout. A bit of swing for the seamers who put the work in.
CRICKET WEB BLUE 310/8 50.0 overs
ENGLAND 'A' 227 46.3 overs
Cricket Web Blue won by 83 runs
Man of the match: Jason Toogood
Under clear sunny skies standin skipper Mr Mxyzptlk lost the toss and was asked to bat first in front of the home crowd. Craig and StUEy immediately imposed their will and raced to 73/0 from 10 overs. Then Collingwood brought himself on to bowl in tandem with Gareth Batty and the batsmen slowed sharply. StUEy, who had gotten to 35 from 21 balls, only reached his half-century from 52. The over after his milestone Craig missed a surprising turner from Troughton and was bowled middle stump.
Broncoman confidently swept his first ball for 3 runs to get off the mark, but drove early at a length ball from Blackwell and was out caught and bowled 3 overs later. StUEy was dismissed the over before to Collingwood and the slower bowlers looked to have the measure of the Blues for the time. Dylan Jellett was missed at slip by Bell off Tremlett on 1 and that sparked an entertaining Blue revival.
A boundary per over was acknowledged on the scoreboard as Toogood and Jellett competed shot for shot. Toogood walked down the pitch and flat batted Batty over midwicket for six and then Jellett cut Collingwood away to the ropes one ball and lofted him straight for the maximum in the very next over. Jellett then charged into the lead of the race to fifty by slog sweeping Pieterson for another six and then cutting Troughton away for four. The crowd went crazy, which inspired Toogood to catch up with his partner on 46 by executing two powerful sweep shots off Pieterson for boundaries. Indeed Toogood reached the milestone first (46 balls) and Jellett had to wait an over to get his (49 balls). In that same over his entertaining knock was ended, flashing at a wide Kabir Ali delivery and caught easily behind.
That would do little to slow Toogood though and he was fed the strike by Mr Mxyzptlk so that he might continue the trend of a boundary per over. Just when he looked to be on his way to his first OD hundred, he missed a slower ball from Collingwood and was LBW for 86 - his highest score nonetheless. A minor collapse in the middle was met by an explosive unbeaten 25 by Muhaffy to push the Blues past 300 - 310/8.
The bowlers were off to a good start defending their large total and Adam proved it when StUEy caught a rocketed cut shot from Pieterson in his 2nd over. The left-arm seamer also accounted for the in-form Troughton and then Owais Shah in his 5th over and was on a roll. Bell and Collingwood consolodated a bit and then the former was yorked in Muhaffy's first over. The latter was in no mood to get out though. In fact he kicked off a partnership of 65 from 50 balls with Blackwell, by smacking consecutive boundaries in Mr M's first over. Just 3 overs Collingwood stunned the Blues further and swatted Muhaffy for six over midwicket three consecutive times! Jellett dropped Blackwell off Halsey and he celebrated by taking Bluefox out of the ground for a six and then cutting him for a four. Halsey got him the over after though, playing around a conventional legbreak and bowled middle stump - 134/5.
The loss of his equally explosive partner inspired Collingwood to settle down a bit and he reached 50 from 51 balls. Chris Read, who had been dropped by Broncoman (off Bluefox) on 2 gave solemn support and saw Collingwood lash Halsey for a six down the ground but saw little after, caught and bowled by the legspinner two overs later. Clearly the end was near and the required rate spiralled up as Collingwood's runs dried up. Nath Patrick was recalled to the crease and finished off the tail.
