CW votes- The greatest ODI teams of all time (Australia)

Ricky Ponting and Greg Chappell will provide their solid yet attacking presence at 3 and 4.

We need a very good 5th bowler. So, Shane Watson has to be in the team. If he doesn't open, no. 5 is the best spot for him.

I really think we should be picking 3-7 here to give a fuller picture of the batting lineup....

Bevan and Hussey played more innings at 6 than other positions and one of them would be at 6 in my all time team, so that the two finishers are split. Symonds also scored most of his runs batting at 5.

My 3-7 would go like this:

Ponting
Bevan
Symonds
Hussey
Watson

Steve Smith's record batting at 3 as it currently stands is quite exceptional, but Ponting/Bevan/Symonds/Hussey are not only good bats but probably the four best ground fielders we've had which counts for a lot imo. I would watch Aus ODI's all day if it meant getting to see those four fielding.

International Captain
Bevan writes his own ticket for 6. And I reckon Symmo fits fine @ 7 even if he was mostly a 5. So not including them here.

Punter (should be easy - World Cup final 2003 alone almost gets him in)
Smitteh. TPC has done just enough I reckon. It's a big call I know, but his ability to hit good balls to ridiculous (and empty) parts of the field makes him an ODI beast. Handy for a couple of overs also.
Huss. It's almost a case of Bevan making Hussey surplus to requirements. But damn the guy could pace an innings. Lightning between the wickets, excellent placement, incomparable temperament, and could hit long when it came time to go for it. Complete package.

But damn so much middle order goodness to choose from.

Ponting
Bevan
Watson

On another day it would be Jones at 5 but today I'm going for Watson. All 4 players are ATG players in ODIs, but Watto's extra bowling clinches it. Between him and Symonds we'll easily convert the 5th bowler position. We lose very little in the batting department too.

Actually I've changed my mind.

Ponting
Bevan
Jones

We have Mark Waugh in the side. No need for Watto.

Hi Red hill,
It will be good if you can run a last vote on 4 squad members to round up the squad to 15 choosing from those who lost out closely. There are too many good players losing out.
