Bracken misses out but deserves a mention though, easy to forget he was ranked no. 1 ODI bowler for a period there.

Yeah this. Starc's WC demolition gets him a spot over Nathan, but before then I'd have gone Bracken. Was a superb ODI bowler. Lillee only a smidge behind Lee also. Pidge is up there with Gilly as a no brainer.

Would like to change my answer to:

McGrath
Starc
Bracken

Basically, Bracken in for Lillee.

Lee was a champ in this format. but I am going for the left hand variety that Starc brings in, to go with Lillee and McGrath who could open the bowling for any all time XI in any format against any opponent in any condition on any planet.

By the way, for the same five positions we've discussed so far, if Australia were to select from a pool of players who never played ODIs, I would've gone for...

Trumper
Hill
---
---
Miller
Davidson
Lindwall

- and they'd have been good enough to form the core of a world cup winning team.
I intend to add my entries to this team each time Redhill opens a poll for a position.

Objectively speaking, all of McGrath, Starc, Bracken, Lee, McDermott (and Hazlewood IMO) achieved more as ODI bowlers than Lillee - keeping the era-difference in mind. This is one case of great test/wsc bowlers being overrated in the shorter format.

The likes of Lillee, Marshall, Steyn shouldn't really be part of all-time ODI XI for their respective countries.

I'll let this run for another 12 hours or so. Someone has changed their selections and if others want to do so, that's fine. Just make sure it's clear you're changing them so when I tally I get the right numbers.

Weldone- Hazelwood is a fine bowler. But he has only played 35 ODIs. I think 50 is a reasonable cut off, especially for modern era guys.

Good to see Mark Waugh selected. My gut said Boon, eyes said junior.

Onto the quicks, it gets tricky as I feel like you can't just play 3 number 10s.

I'll go Starc McGrath Lee

Interesting post Bagas. You could arguably leave Miller out and have him as an allrounder to bat him higher, but you might have others in mind for that role

What a tough selection. My picks are

*McGrath (took a while to be as good a ODI bowler as he was a Test bowler but from 1998 onwards to his masterful 2007 farewell was absolutely awesome)
*Lee (For mine Australia’s best ever ODI bowler. A superb strike bowler for over a decade)
*Starc (If he keeps up his current record for another couple of years, will become Oz’s clear best ever ODI bowler)

Bracken probably the unluckiest of the rest to miss out. Was a terrific ODI bowler; even in that 434/438 was the only bowler on either side to hold his own.

Lillee also unlucky. Didn’t quite have enough ODI matches and also having a bad 83 WC were decisive.
Fleming was a quality ODI bowler but a level below the above. Tbh never rated Gillespie that highly as a ODI bowler.

Back on the opener spot, didn’t get a chance to vote but surprised Mark Waugh got it. He actually wasn’t an opener for that long (from 1995/96 onwards). He had a very good record, but I thought others were better. Tossup between Watson & Hayden for mine; even Boon & Marsh had arguably better cases than Waugh.

Lillee so underrated in ODI cricket. Lee as reserve quick. Bracken rounding out the squad.
