CW Ranks the Batsmen

can someone tell me why hutton is not figuring in the list yet? he didnt just have an awesome record - all great players did, so that is a given - he was also one of the most influential batsmen of all time. he was "the" man opponents had to get to beat england. on either side of war he demonstrated different styles of batsmanship and succeeded in both eras. dont really want to see him slip out of the top 10.
I agree. But what to do with the following players not yet mentioned: G Chappell, Ken Barrington, Dennis Amis, H Sutcliffe, Gavaskar, Weekes, Walcott, Headley, heck even Ponting is definitely worthy of a mention. But yeah, after just recently reading up on Hutton does seem like he's been slighted

Dennis Amiss not fit to carry Ricky Ponting's or the others you've listed's protector as a batsman, TBF.

The further you get down this exercise the harder it is to bring objective elements to bear so I'm going to leave Herbert Sutcliffe for a bit and go with

1. Denis Compton
2. Ranji

I think Chappell has this wrapped up. I dont need to vote :)

Chappell 27 leads Hutton 14 the only other in double figures.

Don't want to sound like the broken record, but think it's criminal Ranji isn't getting more support. Herb the only man other than Sir Donald to end with over 4000 test runs at over 60, which must count for something. Can only think his lack of a second initial has irked the southern snobs.

I have given up trying to put up names of greats like Ranji here. I would prefer assuming he has been forgotten than see a solitary vote - really.

Even in the bowlers thread, I have now decided to vote only close to the end of the round if it helps :)

Tactical voting if you please :)

I dont think we are going to have Ranji in the first dozen maybe the first twenty.
