This again.

Urge people to check Ranji's figures too, he should be getting more votes than he is IMHO.

In Victor Trumper's profile on cricinfo (lifted from Wisden) it says "Trumper at the zenith of his fame challenged comparison with Ranjitsinhji.", suggesting that just to get close to Ranji was a mark of batting greatness.
You are quite right. We all (myself included) tend to keep forgetting Ranji. I think with the presence , in England, of WG in the 19th Century and Hobbs from early 20th, the existence of this Prince amongst batsmen often slips to the recesses of one's memory just as Compton does in later times. There are quite a few writers of those times who, after paying the usual obeisance to WG, will go on to say, that Ranji really never had an equal, meaning not even WG. I think Trumper is at an advantage in that respect for till Bradman came on the scene, he ruled supreme on the pages of Australian cricket history despite the claims of Hill.

Yes we are a unfair to Ranji.

The Wheel is Forever
Chappell and Sutcliffe must go in now. IMO it would be a sad day indeed if either of them dropped out of the top ten.

1. Chappell
2. Sutcliffe

bagapath

International Captain
can someone tell me why hutton is not figuring in the list yet? he didnt just have an awesome record - all great players did, so that is a given - he was also one of the most influential batsmen of all time. he was "the" man opponents had to get to beat england. on either side of war he demonstrated different styles of batsmanship and succeeded in both eras. dont really want to see him slip out of the top 10.
