Bathroom slip costs youngster a big chance
Hancianu ruled out of Davis Cup squad

CWLand Davis Cup hopeful Jamee Hancianu has found himself ruled out of the tie starting this week following a shoulder injury sustained as he slipped in the shower. The Romanian born youngster, who appeared in the finals at Costo do Sauipe, was a likely selection for the CWLand squad in the first ever Davis Cup. After early scans ruled Hancianu clear of any severe damage, it would see him shelved for the best part of a fortnight and also out of the all important first round clash. Sources inside the CWLand camp also suggest that he will not be fit to compete in the Indian Wells Masters tournament beginning next week. In other news, Heath Davis was seen dancing for joy in the streets of Gofftown.

Hancianu will miss ten days with a shoulder injury, whilst Eban, Pangalos and Ducard are all fighting fit.

Mustard has moved up 9 places and continues to impress, but will need more fire to crack the top 50. Hoping he will improve his rankings during the grass court season. Hopefully he makes the Davis Cup side now, with an injury to Hancianu. Will be interesting to see the make up of the squad.

Carpet to prove major stumbling block for favourites
CWLand set to fly beyond the Iron Curtain

The newly formed nation of CWLand faces an imposing task in its second round clash as The Davis Cup gets underway for the first time. Drawn in Group I of the Europe/Africa Zone, CWLand must defeat Belarus in Belarus to qualify for the playoff matches. It will be an interesting first day proper of the first edition of the team tournament, as in the World Group the favourites the United States face an Israeli side captained by world number 100 Tal Cohen. But the tie of the day will undoubtedly be Serbia and France with both sides keen to advance to the quarter finals.

CWLand will head into the contest in Minsk as favourites, the Belarussian the visitors must be wary of is world number 105 Denis Isaev. Also the fact that the tie will take place on indoor carpeted courts may prove a difficult surface to negotiate for the inexperienced CWLand side.

CWLand Davis Cup Team selections

OK. The best way I can think of doing it is that we pick a squad of up to five - three singles players and two doubles players and we pick which legs they play. Preferably use this template.

Singles: Player A [Legs]
Singles: Player B [Legs]
Singles: Player C [Legs]
Doubles: Player A/B/C/D & Player A/B/C/D/E

For me:

Singles: Sven Oxenstierna [1]
Singles: Jefferson Drake [2]
Singles: Heath Davis [1]
Doubles: Brett Read & Randy Smeltz

If I can vote for my own player:

Singles: Oxenstierna [1]
Singles: Drake [2]
Singles: Read [1]
Doubles: Korpinen & Davis

if not replace Davis with Oxenstierna and add Spleen for the doubles

Not too fussed, just get the top guys in there. Can see Read dominating in singles, unsure about doubles.

It's decided. The squad will consist of the following:

Heath Davis
Jefferson Drake
Sven Oxenstierna
Brett Read
Randy Smeltz

Out of interest, Belarus have named the following squad:

Denis Isaev (105)
Yury Nesteruk (266)
Evgeniy Maximov (284)
Sergey Kulanin (388)
Artur Grabowski (NR)

On paper, this SHOULD be a walk in the park.

Oooh yeah. Its great to be on tour with Drake. He's good value down the bar, for sure.

And the tennis court, obviously.
