I've heard it said that Joel Garner retired from international cricket because he didn't want to be captained by Viv Richards. Dunno if that's true.

Never heard that one before and i doubt if this one is true as they both played for SUSSEX(am i right with sussex?) together for quite a time...and when club didnt re new Joel's contract in 86, Viv stepped out and also influenced Ian Botham to quit with him!

The papers are often playing up a rivalry between Flintoff and KP for the spotlight and reportedly after the Mumbai attacks when KP was trying to get everyone to come back to India, Flintoff was doing the opposite (understandably in fairness), also apparently Flintoff sided with Moores in that whole debacle.

Yeah mate, I used it on here once and got called up on it. Before CW, I would just say it in the same context as an Aussie, Saffa, Pom, Kiwi etc.

Think that the MacGill thing is overplayed. Not really disliked, but was just a different guy to the rest of the team. Certainly wasn't an outcast or anything though.

Interestingly he never bowled singl ball to Javed in his life.

Can you tell little more about that speech, what did he say and why was javed brought into discussion, did he say anything else about other cricketrs...like Arjuna or anyone else?

He was just doing an after-dinner speech, and was wheeling out some old stories. The remark about Javed was in the context of the story about the Merv Hughes "tickets please" sledge. He was actually a really good speaker: funny, entertaining and fluent, and he spoke without notes.

But I was surprised that after all the time he's spent in England and with English people he didn't realise that the word "P*ki" is taboo here.

Think Croft rather pissed on his chips with a lot of fellow West Indians when he accepted the Apartheid era rand to tour SA with the rebel Windies team.

Although some of the disagreements might predate the tour, his "rebel" status might rather mitigate against any reproachment now.
