Cricket stuff that doesn't deserve its own thread

If mohammad abbas doesn't play another test before he retires from all forms of cricket he's definitely gonna be looked back on as a "Why didn't this guy play more test cricket" type player.

Anyone who watched his career knows why he got dropped, but 90 test wickets @23, played his last test @31 when he still had some gas left in the tank, 540 non test fc wickets @ a sub 20 average, probably more by the time he's done.

He was always only just above medium pace but after his shoulder injury he got even slower to the point where he wasn't really a viable Test option anymore.

In saying that I reckon Pakistan have regularly picked even worse bowlers since discarding him. Mohammad Ali is basically just a discount Abbas.

But do Pakistan have better options apart from Shaheen and the unexperienced Naseem?

Lost ~10 km an hour of pace after his shoulder injury, stopped taking wickets and an england lineup of sibley-burns-crawley-root-pre baz ball pope- buttler- woakes- bowlers was able to sit on him. Don't know what his pace is at now, he's taking wickets in county and I reckon he's better than some of the t20 guys they've picked vs NZ/ENG while shaheen was injured, but that's why he was dropped initially.

It's a shame PCB is decades behind everyone else in terms of injury management. A shoulder injury isn't normally a career ender. If they made normal pitches again, Abbas could still be useful.

Their injury managment is a bit shite, isn't it. Shaheen having to pay for himself to go to london and get rehab during in the leadup to the last t20 wc was absolutely insane. If you have a fully fit lineup of Hasan ali - Naseem -Shaheen - abbas to pick from on decks that aren't absolute highway's you really should be a decent team, especially with the quality of Pak's lineup. I can't comment on iman for sure, but abdullah shafique, babar, saud shakheel and rizwan/sarfaraz should all be serviceable with the bat absolute worst case on more bowler friendly decks.

Why are people so mad at this? India have made the finals twice and over those two cycles ide say have been the most consistent top tier side. They've had to play two finals in conditions that suit the opposition far more than them and gave NZ a good run in the first one before they got Jamieson'd. This final they got served up an oval deck that suited the Aussies a ton more while missing pant and bumrah. If you gave India pant and bumrah, asked Australia to replace green and Cummins with the next best option and played on a deck with a ton in it for the spinners I guarantee you India would thrash us by a bigger margin than what they lost by this game.

They certainly didn't have things going for them, but I'm still not convinced they'll win any Final that's played a week after the IPL.

Whatever it takes!!!

Its both, really. We were 5 short of our first XI but even with all of them, 1 week after IPL would have meant we were always starting behind in terms of prep and at this level, that can make a huge difference.

What prep did Australia really have? Labuschagne in County just like Pujara and Smith a couple of games, no-one else played for months outside Warner and Green in same IPL Indians were in?
