Cricket stuff that doesn't deserve its own thread

Its both, really. We were 5 short of our first XI but even with all of them, 1 week after IPL would have meant we were always starting behind in terms of prep and at this level, that can make a huge difference.
I'm not even sure it's the prep so much. The IPL is so intense for 2 months, you get the impression the players just need some downtime for a while when it finishes.

Whatever it takes!!!
What prep did Australia really have? Labuschagne in County just like Pujara and Smith a couple of games, no-one else played for months outside Warner and Green in same IPL Indians were in?
You seem to think I implied the prep is the reason Aus won. No, i meant BCCI did not prioritize the WTC so we deserved to lose. We cud have given it a better shot with better prep, which is what Australia had.

We may have still lost. But to blame the players so much when BCCI had them start at such a disadvantage seems a Lil harsh on the players, that is all.

Yeah, its not as crazy as it used to be but it still takes a toll. You are basically playing a game one night that only gets over around 1 AM or so, and then wind up from the ground and reach the hotel by 3 AM and then travel the next morning or day after and then practice the same night in another city, usually after bus rides that are as long as, if not longer than, the flight rides etc etc. Then there is media and a lot of the franchises have their own channels across regular and social media which requires content, and then there are sponsorship commitments, time spent doing ads etc etc. Its a circus, its toned down now from the glories of the Lalit Modi days, but its still a circus.

Wahhh, IPL is bad for Test cricket, tell BCCI what we all have known for years

You're right, was just pissed off Australia didn't have have a warm up game for WTC (or any county games for the Ashes)
I dont think that is a possibility anymore in this day and age. As long as you get the team together to practice for a couple of weeks before the first test, its a win really.

Not playing a high intensity T20 tournament criss crossing a huge country every other day.
Except green and warner both played in the IPL? India lost that game because their bowlers where steaming dogshit on day 1 and let australia get 150 more than they should have in the first innings. All the indian seamer's had plenty of game time in the IPL, while the entire australian attack bar green haven't played in multiple months.

2 Vs 15 is not the same is it? :)

My point is I think BCCI deserves the greater share of criticism for our performance coz they never gave our guys a fair shot at being prepared for a crucial game. The players could always have gone better but they were harmed, instead of helped, by their own board's priorities. So I blame the BCCI's priorities more than the players for this loss.

You'd think India would be well prepped for the intensity of a WTC whereas Australia would be bowling and fielding like it was still a practice session

We did, tbf. How many dropped catches and no ball wickets where there in india's first innings?

Again, what better prep did Australia have?
  • Training and conditioning for the longer format weeks ahead instead of practicing six hitting and bowling 4 over spells over 2-3 months
  • Arriving in the country earlier to familiarise themselves with conditions
  • Being fresher from not having to do all the extra bs on the side that hb mentioned comes with the IPL
  • Decades of cheating playbooks handed down from generation to generation

Why are people so mad at this? India have made the finals twice and over those two cycles ide say have been the most consistent top tier side. They've had to play two finals in conditions that suit the opposition far more than them and gave NZ a good run in the first one before they got Jamieson'd. This final they got served up an oval deck that suited the Aussies a ton more while missing pant and bumrah. If you gave India pant and bumrah, asked Australia to replace green and Cummins with the next best option and played on a deck with a ton in it for the spinners I guarantee you India would thrash us by a bigger margin than what they lost by this game.
It's just the frustration of not being able to win trophies despite putting more money and resources than any other nation.

Just watched the TV show here on Ian Chappell and Botham's 46 year feud. Totally superficial stuff but very entertaining and well put together with lots of footage I hadn't seen before.

As for the final present-day confrontation, as has previously happened Botham wanted to just let it be forgotten but Chappell wouldn't and it disintegrated from there quickly.

Truest line said in the whole thing was when Chappell said to Botham's face that he was one of the worst cricketing commentators going around. Such a relief when he left Sky.
