Cricinfo doesn't have any Percy Hendren on their record.

Only two Hendrens have played for England - Denis Hendren and EH "Patsy" Hendren, according to CI.
You're right. But a few sites call him Percy Hendren. It's clear though that 'Percy' and 'Patsy' refers to the same player.

England's Percy Hendren against Australia at Brisbane in 1928-29 and New Zealand's John Wright against Australia at Melbourne in 1980-81 scored 8 runs of one ball (which includes four boundary overthrows), and in ODIs, the maximum runs (recorded so far) of a ball is seven by West Indian Shivnarine Chanderpaul againt India at Singapore in September 1999.

Must be that.

Has to be that one.

The clue says you don't have to hit a boundary.

And 8 runs off the ball were without hitting a boundary.

There is no other connection between the two which is related to not hitting boundaries.

This is not a 'pure' cricket question and is an old chestnut

X in his 40's took up cricket and played for MCC once bowling out WG Grace.
But he's more famous for creating the world famous character Y whom he named after 2 cricketers. Who's X?
