Yes, that's what he is saying. Ponting has a longer shot; i.e. his chances are lower than Tendulkar.
Looking at the test calendar I think Tendulkar has a serious shot if he is willing to stick around for those 8 months after the WC presumably after retiring from ODI's. In three years time in 2012 he will be 39 which is around the age Steve Waugh retired. He will have seven home tests against NZ and WI where he will have to cash in: score perhaps 4 hundreds in those two series. At his age he will get injured but if he can get by without missing more than 2-3 tests he will have a real shot. It all depends on how much he wants it. Maybe the BCCI can help him by organzing a series against Pakistan at a neutral venue while he is still around.
My sense is that he does care quite a bit about records and his legacy and if he can reach this extraordinary target, which may never be equalled, he will go for it.
