Boxing thread

Not really that much of an outlier, when it's only 2 points away from the judge with the most dissimilar score.

Almost feels like a modern day Hagler Robinson. One of those fights where your scoring will depend massively on what you subjectively favour. Looking at the media coverage there doesn't appear to be any consensus on who deserved to win. Hopefully we get a rematch.
I don't think I saw Beterbiev land a single punch cleanly. It was still a close fight because he is an amazing boxer with ridiculous power and a fantastic jab. He had a few good rounds.

But I think Bivol clearly won that.

You could make a case that Bivol won 5 of the first 6 rounds and that's actually how I scored it.

I thought draw or Bivol win live (but watching on a dodgy stream and missing bits here and there), then watched the full fight in HD last night and, despite not wanting to, had either draw or Beterbiev 7-5. That depended on round 12 which most people scored for Beterbiev but I thought was a close round.

It's funny because I largely agree with the pro-Bivol narrative of the fight i.e. that Beterbiev landed few scoring punches and vanishingly few genuinely clean scoring punches. Bivol on the other hand won his rounds more clearly (particularly round 9) and landed the better shots even in rounds I think he lost.

I also agree that clean punching should be the primary scoring criteria. I just found that in rounds 5-8 and 10-11, Beterbiev was landing enough cuffing or partially blocked shots to narrowly edge out the maybe 2-3 good shots Bivol was able to land in those rounds. I don't score simply for "activity", but I did think that in those rounds the result of Beterbiev's activity was that he landed fractionally more than Bivol. Rounds 8/10/12 were close though, and maybe others.

Wow, Tszyu brutally stopped by Murtazaliev.

the look on his face after feeling that left hook was scary. Tough, tough dude but that felt dangerous how long it went on for.

I have this funny feeling that Joseph Parker is not getting fights right now because he is the backup plan if Fury pulls out of the rematch with Usyk. Frank Warren would like that. Joseph Parker would like that. Usyk would think it's a respectable scalp to add to his resume. Turki would probably be on board so long as they padded out the undercard a bit more than it is right now.

I also think there's a decent chance of Fury pulling out.

I know that Fury is unreliable but haven’t heard anything in that regard

Katie Taylor is certainly a judge’s favourite
Oh man, I love Katie was a robbery.

She was 3.5 (5/2) before the fight betting wise which is crazy as she opened as fav , bit of a robbery that.

Katie is great but yeah she loves a headbutt lol

That was a letdown as expected. I suppose it was the cricketing equivalent of watching a fraser mcgurk batting against senior curtly ambrose or something
