triple ton specialist Jadeja is the first complete All-rounder since Miller

on Australian pitches I'd back him to average 40 with both bat and ball

anyway, your point stands i'm just being cheeky

Doesn't make sense for spinners to be as fit as pacers since they don't need to be. Plenty of fit spinners though. More round spinners than pacers, yes.

With Ashwin continuing to be ordinary away and Jadeja not even good enough to make a touring Indian Test side, it’s now more apparent than ever that the answer to this question is Nathan Lyon.

that's a funny point raised about spinners not being very fit. I really can't fit of many super athletes who were frontline spinners. A lot of batting all-rounders who bowled part-time spin were very fit(think Gayle, Samuels as well as Warner and Smith), but not many who's main skill was their spin bowling.

So many have been on the older side(grimmett, ironmonger), fat(herath, warne) drank/smoked too much(warne, tufnell), too lanky/gangly (valentine, lyon benn) or just gave off the aura of being lazy/laid back/not concerned with gym (Ashwin, tufnell, Matthews, many more i'm sure)

It's funny. Spin bowling produces great characters though, you get a lot of variety compared to mean angry quicks
So that's why Derek Crookes never made it!

??? Ashwin's done okay. He's averaging 30.71 this series compared with Maharaj's 125. That's pretty decent in SA. Lyon averaged 39 in 2014.

you know a thread has gone to weird places when tjb is praising lyon.

lyon was really good on that 2014 tour btw. i think his figures might have been dented a bit at PE and he didn't take a lot of wickets, but he kept it extremely tight on pitches that mostly offered nothing and allowed the quicks to rotate. particularly vital in the case of johnson, who was still being used by clarke in howitzer mode for 4-over spells. ask graeme smith, he's spoken/written in the past on how important lyon was to that four man attack.

edit: actually he took most of his wickets at PE. oh well. his series figures were:

2/38 from 14
0/33 from 13
5/130 from 46
2/48 from 17
1/53 from 12
0/10 from 22

that's honestly not bad at all given his role in the side and the pitches. would take similar in march.
