I'd love to say Fatty but Ashwin's ridiculous home record negates his poor away form.

Lyon once again chronically under rated on here. Across all conditions he’s better than each of the others. Love His Roundness though. Wafg. Maharaj looks the goods, but rating Jadeja and Shah above him is scandalous. You can argue certain of the others are better than Lyon in certain conditions and you’d be right, but he doesn’t turn into a passenger on your team sheet anywhere.

He has been pretty boom or bust in India and has had a lot more bust innings than boom. I would say he was a passenger a number of times when playing in India.

Now now TJB. Didn't you almost begrudgingly admit your Lyon hate was your own problem and and based on an unfair, nonobjective reality. You were almost cured - don't fall back into your negative ways. This bandwagon has airconditioning - stay on board.

But a few 7-fors against Bangladesh and bowling a slogging-for-the-win India out at Adelaide (on of the most spin-friendly of Australia's venues) makes him a class player?

Best thing he did was the 8-50 against India, but even then he only took 11 wickets in the other 7 innings of the series and failed to have any influence on Australia winning a game.

Think Ashwin and Jadeja benefit from having a superior batting line up and each other. Herath and maybe Yasir probably better as a stand alone bowler.

that's a funny point raised about spinners not being very fit. I really can't fit of many super athletes who were frontline spinners. A lot of batting all-rounders who bowled part-time spin were very fit(think Gayle, Samuels as well as Warner and Smith), but not many who's main skill was their spin bowling.


So many have been on the older side(grimmett, ironmonger), fat(herath, warne) drank/smoked too much(warne, tufnell), too lanky/gangly (valentine, lyon benn) or just gave off the aura of being lazy/laid back/not concerned with gym (Ashwin, tufnell, Matthews, many more i'm sure)



It's funny. Spin bowling produces great characters though, you get a lot of variety compared to mean angry quicks
