Best bowling actions

Yes, lots of bowlers bowl slower in Sri Lanka than in South Africa - something to do with the heat being just a little energy-sapping if you're not used to it.
It's more because of the altitude diffrence.

Bishan Bedi amongst many great bowling actions amongst spinners and Larwood and Bedser amongst the fast and medium pace category.

I have seen films of both Larwood and Bedser and they are amazingly smooth actions - right through run ups, delivery and follow through.

I have three pictures of Bedi, Bedser and Larwood all just before delivery with the leading arm raised and the eyes loking over the leading shoulder. They are surprisingly similar in their poise, relaxed posture and the uncanny feeling as if they are standing still for a fraction of a second before delivery.

No, I'd rather judge him on the yearly average speeds that were shown during this Test.
See?
so lets hear them then? what were they like?

Well, yes, true - it's nowhere near as hot in the mountains at Kandy as it is in Galle and Colombo.

For crying-out-loud, I already posted them - that was what the start of this convo was:

Of course it can make a difference but he didn't lose pace in 2001, that's borne-out by his speedgun readings - it was something like an average of 80.3mph in 1998, 80.1 in 1999, 80.4 in 2000 (his consistency of speed is remarkable as his of line and length), 79.7 in 2001, 79.1 in 2002, 79.4 in 2003 and the Test they gave it in was the first in 2004, so it was for a single game, and it was 77.3 (clearly a misleading drop, given the consistency of previous years).

Well most of Gauteng and the Free State is above 8000 feet, which is about as high as anything in Sri Lanka.. Its a lot cooler, but the altitude can have an effect (usually occasional headaches)

The way I understand it, higher altitude = thinner air = ball travelling a few mph faster than it would lower down (eg in England, Australia, West Indies, etc.)
Which would sort of explain why bowlers often go to South Africa and bowl quicker than elsewhere. Eg WC2003, lots of bowlers were noticed to have bowled a bit quicker than previously.

Yeh, spot on. SA have a big home advantage with the altitude and hard pitches. But people tend to tire slightly more quickly, especially if it is hot.. Harmo should be a threat though

so hes magically started to bowl 3-4 miles slower in SL this time around?
mind you, its not surprising either that in 02 he played more than half his tests at home and still averaged more than 1.5mph lower than wht he did in 00 where he played about half of them in the sub continent. same goes for 01, where he played most of his tests at home and zimbabwe.
