Player of the week
Ray Westhead (College Dropouts)
It was a clash of the titans in Group D when the unbeaten College Dropouts met Kipper XI at Trentington. College Dropouts' openers slaughtered the Kipper XI bowling attack and cruise to 0/330. Kipper XI always looked to be within a boundary of being "on top", but the last 10 overs saw young allrounder Ray Westhead tear through the home side's batting lineup, finishing with an awesome 8.5-2-27-7, and even compared with the efforts of Usmal Jayasuriya and Zat Kennedy, these figures and the quality of the opposition shone as the best performance of the round. Special mention to Gaz Verde of AA for President, who took 6/7 and hit 46*.
Team of the week
College Dropouts (Group D)
College Dropouts stamped their dominance on Group D by comfortably romping to victory over the embattled Kipper XI. Zat Kennedy (153*) and Usmal Jayasuriya (169*) hit Kipper's bowlers to all parts of the ground, but the best was yet to come. Ray Westhead struck early to remove both of the Kipper openers for single figure scores, and just as the 86 run partnership between Dove and Attwood seem to take the game away from them, Hewitt took the wickets of Attwood - only for South and Dove to pile on another 141 runs, at which point the game was evenly poised. That was until Ray Westhead decided he was going to take some more wickets. Many more. He trapped South leg before, assisted in the run out of Dove, ran through the fragile Kipper XI lower order and finished with phenomenal figures of 7/27, leading his team to an impressive 46-run win.
Best effort
Sad Decadent XI (Group B)
The whipping boys of Group B, Gaurav Nayak's Sad Decadent XI, went up against the struggling Viveash. Desperate for their first win of the cup, the Sad Decadent XI won the toss and batted first on an uneven pitch. Thanks to a century from Abdul kadir and a steady 64 from Singh, they battled their way to 245 from 49 overs, Oneil the main destroyer with 3/41 from his 10. The best, however, was yet to come. Girilal Singh, one of three Singh's in the Sad Decadent Xi, struck two early blows with the crucial wickets of Wainwright and Kenna, Viveash finding themselves struggling at 2/24. Blewitt hit a fine run-a-ball century, and piled on 141 runs for the 4th wicket with Lockwood (62). Despite a brilliant 5/47 from Girilal Singh, Viveash scraped home by 3 wickets in what was a surprising even contest.
