Brian Lara - gotta love a guy who can smash the aussies around, we wont have that come november 22

Pietersen can do that. In any case, I don't see the Ashes being retained. It would take a huge miracle (ie the Australian team plane crash landing on an unknown island the night before).

Tough one.

Support at other end : Gilchrist had Langer (127) at the other end all the time except last 5 runs. Gooch was ABSOLUTELY single handed (next top scorer 27).

Opposing Attack : Wasim and Waqar in 1999-2000 (with Saqlain) were not the same attack as Marshall, Ambrose. Walsh and Patterson were in 1991.

Batting Conditions Conditions : The average scores in the Australia Pakistan test were 341 runs per ten wickets. In the England West Indies matche they it was just 196. Batting wasnt too easy it seems.

Its Gooch for me.

Has to be Gooch for me. A typical (at the time) Headingly pitch & a Windies attack featuring three nailed-on all time greats & Patrick Patterson, who was probably quicker than any of them. Goochie carried his bat for 154* out of 252 with 27 being the next highest score. The fact that our attack consisting of Deadly Dev, De Freitas, Steve Watkin & Derek Pringle was able to shot a Windies line up containing Haynes, Richie Richardson, Hooper & Sir Viv for 162 tells you all you need to know about that pitch.
