Battle of the Test Innings

Umm... wow. This is the first round?

Well... Bradman's 270 has a fair claim to be the best innings ever, taking everything into account, so I'll go with that marginally. Series situation, the state of the pitch, the opposition, the pressure...

Laxman's deserved to make the last 4 or so, though.

18 yr old Afridi scoring 141 on a raging turner in Chennai against Kumble and Co.

And Yea Pak won by 10 runs.:)
It wasn't really a raging turner when he was batting. It started turning bad only on the last day of that match. I mean, Prasad got a 6 fer there. I know he wasn't all that quick, but calling him a spinner would be too much. :p But it wasn't an easy track to bat on though and it was a very mature innings, even though I still don't believe he was only 18 or 19 back then. ;)

Really is very difficult to choose between two magnificent innings.

Have to go for Laxman though.

I'm going to vote for Laxman, because I actually saw this innings and even though the situation for Bradman was bad, I don't think you can get more behind than following on in a test match 1 - 0 down in a 3 test series.

& secondly, it's diametric opposite, Beefy's 149* at Headingley in 1981. A fantastic display of unbridled & devil-may-care hitting. Gave us a sufficient sniff & Sir Bob turned in the bowling display of his career for us to nick the test
From what I've read/seen, this wasn't a particularly great innings, it was a lucky one. His hundred later on in the series was IMO a far better one.

I didn't watch Bradman's innings, and he has enough accolades attributed to him already, so my choice is the VVS LAXMAN masterclass. Pure control over the world's best attack.

Laxman. Great blend of attack, imperious elegance and endurance. Throw the following circumstances in, and you've got a batting Masterclass: two all time greats in the opposition bowling line-up; 0-1 down in the Test series; following on.

Oh, and have I seen Bradman's innings, or have any idea of how good it was and what Im comparing Laxman too? Hell no. Still, VVS it is.

Laxman and this is an easy one ( my suspicion is that it will boil down to Laxman's 281 and Lara's 153*).
