Battle of the Test Innings

Lara's 153* for me. The quintessential matchup between value of the knock and volume of runs, and the impact of the innings means more to me.

Whilst I was delighted to see Astle's gem go through, shouldn't Sir Vyvyan's knock have triumphed though as Grecian voted 2 minutes before Faaip?

Anyway,

It's hard to look past a world record, but the 153* is just classic BCL. The 400 was more about the record than the game.

153*

The 400 was a shameful display by a captain who cost his team any chance of a result in that game.

And Lara's 153 through 10-0.

Pretty farcical on my part involving the Astle/Richards countback. Cheers to Brumby and Marc for picking that out.

So far, the only fair way I've thought of is to have a three-way battle with whoever Astle/Richards was set to face.
Interestingly, it's Deano's 210.

So here we go.

Astle, Scored more runs than deano twice as fast. Sure that match had a thrilling result but his first innings knock shouldn't really be affected by it.

Have to go with Astle still. It was an utterly jaw-dropping thing to witness. I have never seen, in any sport, a player more totally "in the zone". Seemingly every ball was being dispatched to the boundary.

The stats of the match don't tell the full story of the majesty of that knock. Being in NZ it finished at some ungodly hour over here, but you just could not leave it. I honestly thought he'd brought NZ closer to the target too, my rose-tinted specs colouring my memory too possibly.
