I believe Lloyd lost two series during captain, and drew one whereas Ponting has only lost one.
You've probably got a point regarding Imran's near elevation to god status, but IMO, Pollock was rubbish.Beleg said:I think Pollock is highly underrated as a captain. He took over the captaincy at a trying time and captained the SA admirably. He deserved more then a single vote. My vote is basically a reflection of my respect for Pollock as a person, player and leader of men.
Imran Khan, for all his obvious virtues, was a controversial figure who adopted the hard line way too often for my liking. He was a dictatorial figure with egoistic tendencies and wasn't really a team-player as such.
I haven't seen many instances of Imran Khan captaining, apart from the 92 world cup, so I honestly cannot judge his on-field merits, but I fear that that his general charisma, his success in the world cup and against WI created a larger then life image which paints him in a much more saintly light then is justified.
Have heard some real positive stuff about Armstrong as a leader thats why he got my vote.Goughy said:Look at you all converting to SS's winning %age philosophy. Shame on you all
Anyway. To me there is no doubt. Len Hutton
Far more Tests as captain, was Englands first professional captain and had to put up with a lot of **** form certain quarters, captained the side to famous series comebacks and would have captained a lot more if he had not had health problems.
Would probably captain the AllTime England XI

Ill let you give him the peerage but he would not get close to an All England 5th XI. If he made the All Time team Id walk to Mumbai myselfBoyBrumby said:Lord Jardine of Mumbai for mine.
Posthumous life-peerage for the great man; it's only a matter of time IMO.

Yet SS reckons he's won 11 out of 12 series, for all we know, his record in India might have tipped the balance to make it 4-0 India if he'd played (more so if he won the toss)
Far be it for to join in on Ponting bashing (), but Marc does have a point. Attributing that series victory to Ponting for the express purpose of showing how impressive his captaincy record is, is probably unfair. Yes, it's hypothetical in that maybe he'd have won those matches, but the fact is that he didn't, so it seems a bit strange to wield it in the way you're wielding it. Make sense?silentstriker said:Or they might have won by bigger margins. Thats the thing about hypothetical situations - they're hypothetical (yea, I know its quite a revelation).
In any case, 11/12 is 11/12.
Marc is really stretching if he thinks that because Ponting lost one game against India that counts as a series loss. Fair enough if it was a one off test match. Yes, Gilchrist was the captain that won the series, but Ponting wasn't the captain that lost the series, it was Ganguly.Slow Love™ said:Far be it for to join in on Ponting bashing (), but Marc does have a point.
