Battle of the Test captains

International Captain
Ian Chappell here, surely one of our greatest. Still a bit amazed at the glowing recall of AB's captaincy in the last round (and at this forum in general), though I guess he had an unpopular opponent.

Don't agree?

I grew up with AB, he was a true legend. And the greatest thing about him was that he saw the light and became a Qld, and is regarded as probably one of the greatest QLDers of all time.

I'll never forget his comment to Dean Jones when Jonesy was sick during his famous double century in India. "Go out there, or I'll get a Queenslander to do it." Great stuff from a great man.

Nah, I certainly agree that Border is a legend of the game - I think I gave my thoughts on him in the Steve Waugh thread. Thought he was a pretty ordinary captain, though he's obviously getting a bit of a reappraisal in that regard with the passing of time.

Didn't bother with the Steve Waugh thread. The thread title was an insult, so I didn't induldge. IMO Border is Australia's greatest ever captain.

Marc is really stretching if he thinks that because Ponting lost one game against India that counts as a series loss. Fair enough if it was a one off test match. Yes, Gilchrist was the captain that won the series, but Ponting wasn't the captain that lost the series, it was Ganguly.
Actually NO, Ganguly was captain for only first two tests, Australia were up 1-0 but the series was not lost yet. The series was lost in Nagpur when Dravid was the captain.

No, I love AB, but Richards was clearly the better captain. Nothing wrong with the % theory.
Richards was only better because of your %ge theory, else AB all the way. Richards was a disaster as captain.

In which case Dravid got a series draw, Ganguly a series loss, Ponting a series loss and Gilchrist a series win?

Now that's confusing!
